Job Description
This position is with a restaurant that emphasizes quick and friendly service to guests, primarily through the carhop method of delivery. Carhops are iconic in drive-in restaurants, where food is served directly to customers’ cars, creating a nostalgic and convenient dining experience. The establishment values operational efficiency, high-quality food presentation, and exemplary customer service standards, all while maintaining a clean and safe environment. This environment is fast-paced, requiring adaptability and responsiveness, especially during irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The role of the Carhop is crucial in ensuring a positive dining experience by delivering product to guests promptly and politely. The role demands balancing trays that can weigh up to 25 pounds, maintaining the quality and appearance of the product before delivery, and providing efficient service while potentially skating in the case of a Skating Carhop. This position reports directly to the Manager on Duty (MOD) and is classified as nonexempt, meaning it is typically eligible for overtime pay. The Carhop serves as the frontline face of guest interaction and plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness and operational standards by performing routine cleaning and sanitation tasks. Duties include not only delivering and clearing orders but also handling guest payments and responding quickly to guest requests and concerns.
Working conditions involve continuous standing, bending, reaching, and possibly skating, often in exposure to heat, hot liquids, and variable weather conditions for outdoor service. The job also involves stock management, including moving products weighing up to 50 pounds. Carhops must be able to perform multiple tasks efficiently under all operational policies and procedures. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy active roles in food service, have excellent customer service skills, and can thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented restaurant environment.
