Job Description
The hiring establishment is a classic drive-in restaurant known for its unique service style and commitment to customer satisfaction. With a nostalgic ambiance that combines innovative dining experiences and friendly, efficient service, the restaurant has carved a niche in the competitive food service industry. As a staple in the community, it offers guests a memorable dining atmosphere where food quality, presentation, and customer interaction are prioritized at every level of service.
This particular job opportunity is for the position of Carhop, a vital role dedicated to enhancing guest experience through prompt and courteous delivery of food and beverages directly to customers in their vehicles. The Carhop operates under the supervision of the Manager on Duty (MOD) and holds a nonexempt status, indicating eligibility for overtime pay and adherence to regulated working hours.
The Carhop position involves various responsibilities geared toward maintaining high standards of food quality, guest service, and cleanliness within the restaurant’s operational areas. This role requires physically managing trays that can weigh up to 25 pounds, demanding good balance and stamina. The Carhop is expected to greet guests warmly, respond promptly to any requests, and efficiently handle payment transactions ensuring accurate change is made.
In addition to serving guests, the Carhop also plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the restaurant environment. Duties extend to clearing trays and trash from different areas such as guest vehicles, patios, drive-thru, and parking lots. The role includes complying with company policies, performing regular cleaning tasks including washing dishes, mopping, sweeping, sanitizing food preparation areas, and proper disposal of grease.
There are additional responsibilities for candidates trained as Skating Carhops, who deliver orders while on roller skates, adding an element of speed and entertainment to the service. This includes moving and stocking food products which may weigh up to 50 pounds, requiring physical endurance and agility. Skating Carhops must complete specific training programs and perform all job duties while skating, emphasizing balance, coordination, and safety.
This position demands irregular working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, aligning with the restaurant’s operating schedule. As such, flexibility and reliability in attendance are crucial for success in this role. The work environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, involving continuous standing, bending, reaching, moving, stooping, stretching, lifting, and skating. Staff may be exposed to heat, hot liquids, extreme cold from freezer exposure, and varying outdoor weather conditions, reflective of a dynamic and sometimes challenging workplace.
Overall, the Carhop position offers a unique blend of customer service, physical activity, and team collaboration within a well-established restaurant setting. It is ideal for motivated individuals who enjoy engaging with customers, performing multiple tasks efficiently, and contributing to a vibrant dining experience. This role provides opportunities to develop strong interpersonal skills, gain valuable food service experience, and be part of a team dedicated to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
