The role of the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer at Cedars-Sinai is integral to maintaining the institution’s reputation for clinical excellence. The sonographer will be responsible for acquiring echocardiographic measurements, preparing digital preliminary reports, and communicating findings effectively with interpreting physicians.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP or other accredited diagnostic ultrasound program required or 5 years of diagnostic ultrasound experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required with valid expiration date
  • Ability to use ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic studies
  • Strong understanding of echocardiographic measurement protocols
  • Effective communication skills to interact with physicians and patients
  • Commitment to patient safety and infection control
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP or other accredited diagnostic ultrasound program required or 5 years of diagnostic ultrasound experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required (BLS expiration date must be valid 60 days from the start date)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer preferred

Job Duties

  • Uses appropriate techniques with ultrasound equipment to supply diagnostic studies based upon physician request
  • Performs a variety of technical procedures to support physician's diagnosis
  • Responsible for providing high quality imaging
  • Appropriately acquire echocardiographic measurements per protocol, create digital preliminary reports for the interpreting physician, and verbally communicate preliminary findings to the interpreting physician
  • Reviews physician order to verify appropriateness for order being performed
  • Retrieve studies from PACS for review
  • Perform appropriate infection control processes
  • Provide an environment of care that supports patient safety
  • Addresses patient educational needs as pertains to requested studies
  • Prepare patients for the study
  • Supports IAC Standards and Guidelines
  • Assures accuracy data for clinical reports, demographics and billing information for physician reports
  • Support team approach and service focus work with colleagues in a "team approach" to encourage a positive and service-oriented image for the department.
