This position at CHRISTUS Health is for a diagnostic echocardiographer who will perform diagnostic echocardiograms on both adult and pediatric patients. The role is part-time with multiple shifts available, providing flexibility while contributing to a vital cardiology service. The echocardiographer is responsible for acquiring high-quality diagnostic images using 2D, M-mode, and Doppler technology, which are essential in assessing cardiac function and structure. The role involves close collaboration with cardiologists and other hospital departments to ensure seamless patient care from scheduling through billing and record keeping. Beyond performing diagnostic studies, the echocardiographer assists cardiologists during examinations, helps maintain and monitor equipment, participates in quality control and performance improvement initiatives, and supports emergency on-call coverage when scheduled. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- completion of two year allied health education program that is patient care related
- ability to communicate effectively
- demonstrates strong organizational skills
- ability to work collaboratively with others from a variety of disciplines
- ability to work at a rapid pace under stressful conditions
- manual dexterity to perform echocardiograms
- two years of actively doing echocardiograms preferred
- ARDMS/CCI registered required or registered within 18 months of hire
- state of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License
- BLS certification issued through American Heart Association within six months of hire
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- completion of a two-year allied health education program related to patient care preferred including diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist or registered nurse
- ability to communicate effectively
- strong organizational skills
- ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- ability to perform echocardiograms with manual dexterity
- two years of echocardiogram experience preferred
- ARDMS/CCI registration required or obtained within 18 months of hire
- state of New Mexico Echo Sonographer License
- BLS certification through American Heart Association within six months of hire
Job Duties
- Perform technically proficient 2D, M-mode and Doppler cardiac exams
- coordinate activities with interrelated hospital departments including scheduling exams, transporting patients, answering phones and ensuring accurate billing
- assist cardiologist while dictating exams by preparing and measuring M-modes and providing relevant diagnostic information
- act as liaison to deliver, pick up and distribute dictations promptly
- respond to patient needs during exams and report changes in condition to physician or nurse
- order echo supplies and maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms
- log patients and exams and file patient records
- participate in performance improvement activities at departmental and hospital levels
- share responsibility for on-call coverage for emergency echo exams as established by policy
- maintain quality control of equipment and exams and coordinate repair services
- keep current on echocardiography advancements and seek mentorship from cardiologists
- assist with other cardiac procedures as needed
