Job Description
HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital is a prominent healthcare facility located in South Carolina's Lowcountry, known for its comprehensive and patient-centered medical services. As part of the larger HCA Healthcare system, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services, Trident Health operates with a network that includes two acute care hospitals—HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital and HCA Healthcare Summerville Hospital—alongside three freestanding emergency departments. These departments are Brighton Park Emergency, Moncks Corner Medical Center, and Centre Pointe Emergency. Serving nearly 375,000 residents annually, Trident Health exemplifies commitment to quality care and community health improvement. The hospital system employs more than 2,600 staff members, over 500 physicians, and 130 volunteers, all dedicated to fulfilling its mission of compassionate and effective healthcare delivery. In the words of Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., HCA Healthcare Co-Founder, "Bricks and mortar do not make a hospital. People do." This philosophy underscores the hospital's approach of valuing staff as key to its success and patient care excellence.
The role of Cardiac Prep and Recovery RN - PRN at HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital offers a unique opportunity for registered nurses seeking flexible, part-time work with preferential scheduling. This position is designed for nursing professionals who are passionate about cardiac patient care and who aim to contribute to a multidisciplinary team focused on perioperative nursing and patient safety during surgical interventions. The job emphasizes delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through comprehensive preoperative patient evaluations, education on surgical procedures, and vigilant monitoring during cardiac surgical preparation and recovery phases.
As a PRN Cardiac Prep and Recovery RN, you will be integral to the surgical services team, joining forces with providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists to uphold high standards of patient care and surgical safety protocols. The job involves preparing patients through intravenous therapy, administration of preoperative medications, and meticulous surgical site verifications adhering to universal protocols such as briefings and time-outs. You will also be responsible for recognizing and responding to any patient emergencies that may arise, maintaining thorough documentation, and supporting families throughout the surgical process.
HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital fosters a culture of mutual respect and collaboration among surgical staff, offering continuous investment in state-of-the-art surgical equipment to enhance workflow efficiency and patient safety. The hospital encourages open communication by involving nursing staff in unit leadership rounds to ensure voices are heard regarding patient care and surgical workflow improvements. The scheduling model aims to provide predictability with self or preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance, although on-call duties during select non-business hours are required.
The position requires essential nursing certifications including Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and an active Registered Nurse license, all to be obtained within 90 days of employment. Educationally, the role necessitates an Associate Degree in Nursing, with no travel or prior experience required, making it an ideal opportunity for emerging nurses as well as those seeking to specialize in cardiac surgical care. HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital supports its employees through a robust benefits package that addresses health, retirement, education, and wellbeing, reinforcing its commitment to the personal and professional growth of its staff.
Overall, this PRN Cardiac Prep and Recovery RN role offers a dynamic, supportive, and technologically advanced work environment that not only promotes excellence in patient care but also supports the career aspirations and lifestyle needs of nursing professionals committed to making a difference in cardiac surgical nursing.
