Operated in partnership with Sodexo, a global leader in food services and facilities management, the Convention Center thrives on delivering exceptional event experiences through impeccable service, quality catering, and professional staff. Sodexo is recognized for its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its employees and clients alike. The company fosters a culture of inclusivity, respect, and development, making it a desirable place to work for individuals passionate about hospitality and event management. This particular role is a full-time position based at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, with pay ranging from $20 to $22 per hour, offering a flexible and supportive work environment. The shifts vary, with the expectation of open availability preferred, to meet the dynamic scheduling needs of events hosted at this large convention venue.
As a Banquet Captain at Sodexo, you will be the direct leader overseeing banquet operations during events and catering services at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Your role is crucial in ensuring that every event runs smoothly, professionally, and meets high-quality service standards as defined by the Banquet Event Orders (BEOs). This includes managing banquet servers and doormen, leading the set-up, service, and tear-down phases of events, and maintaining a sharp focus on guest satisfaction and attention to detail. You will communicate effectively with the banquet supervisor, culinary team, and service staff to coordinate seamless operations tailored to the size and style of each event. Your leadership will extend to ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation protocols, alcohol service regulations, and hazardous analysis requirements (HACCP). Training and onboarding new service staff members also form a vital part of your responsibilities, contributing to the continuous development of the team. This position is physically active, including the frequent lifting and moving of up to 35 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds, demonstrating the need for stamina and physical readiness. Sodexo values its employees and offers an inclusive work culture where your contributions are recognized and opportunities for career advancement through ongoing training and development are encouraged. The role offers various benefits such as paid time off, holiday pay, medical, dental, and vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, 401k savings plan, and employee discount programs. Specific site benefits may include free meals during shifts, uniforms, safety footwear, and support for public transportation or parking expenses. As part of the Sodexo team, you will be part of a mission-driven company dedicated to improving daily life and creating better communities through exceptional service excellence and sustainable practices.
