Job Description

Brigham Young University (BYU) is the flagship higher education institution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Known for its distinctive commitment to faith and academic excellence, BYU aims to be among the world's exceptional universities. Located on a beautiful and historic campus, BYU blends a rich heritage of religious values with rigorous educational programs, fostering an environment where students, faculty, and staff can grow spiritually, intellectually, and personally. The university's mission is to assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life, a vision deeply rooted in the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

BYU offers a vibrant campus life enriched with weekly devotionals, an inclusive culture of belonging, and numerous opportunities for personal development and learning. These elements contribute to an inspiring workplace where employees can contribute meaningfully to the university's mission while growing their own skills and careers. As a Christ-centered university, BYU places strong emphasis on community values, ethical behavior, and service to others.

The Cannon Commons Dining Team at BYU is currently seeking dedicated and independent individuals to support campus dining services. This role is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to nourish the campus community with a spirit of hospitality that aligns with BYU's values. The position demands individuals who are detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working efficiently to ensure high-quality service. Team members will engage in a variety of tasks including customer service, food preparation, hosting, cashiering, and maintaining cleanliness standards in dining areas.

Working at Cannon Commons means being part of a collaborative team focused on enhancing community through excellent food service. Employees are expected to exhibit a professional attitude, self-motivation, and strong leadership qualities. Flexibility is essential, as Sunday shifts are part of the rotating schedule, with accommodations for sacrament participation during those hours. This role offers a competitive starting pay of $12.00 per hour, plus an additional $2.00 per hour in dining meal credits, making it a great opportunity for those seeking employment on a university campus with additional perks.

Additionally, the position offers a range of benefits including an employee assistance program available to the employee and their household, access to the campus library, free parking, complimentary public transit passes, and discounts at the BYU store and for various campus events. This comprehensive benefits package supports not only the employee's work life but also their personal wellbeing and connection to the campus community.

BYU is committed to equal opportunity employment, including provisions for individuals with disabilities and protected veterans. As a faith-based institution, BYU strongly prefers to hire faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who are worthy to hold a current temple recommend, aligning personal values with the university’s mission. Joining BYU means becoming part of a community that values diverse perspectives, talents, and heartfelt devotion to education and faith, offering a uniquely fulfilling workplace experience.
