Candlewood Suites Durham - RTP is a vibrant hotel located in the heart of the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina. As part of the well-recognized Candlewood Suites brand, this hotel boasts a prime location near key landmarks including Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU), Interstate 40, and the expansive Research Triangle Park – the largest research park in the United States. The hotel offers convenient access to top-tier educational institutions such as Duke University, University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University. Guests appreciate the diverse entertainment options nearby ranging from cultural attractions like the Sarah P. Duke Gardens and the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, to an energetic nightlife filled with bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. This dynamic environment attracts a broad spectrum of guests, including business travelers, academics, families, and tourists, making Candlewood Suites Durham - RTP a bustling and exciting place to work and grow a career.
The Assistant General Manager position at Candlewood Suites Durham - RTP offers an exceptional opportunity for a passionate and experienced hospitality professional to join a committed team dedicated to excellence in service and operational efficiency. This role is classified as an overtime eligible manager (OEM), ensuring that any overtime is compensated according to regulations. The Assistant General Manager serves as a key leadership figure who ensures that every guest experience is outstanding and that the hotel's daily operations maintain smoothness and profitability. Acting as the right hand to the General Manager, this role requires managing multiple departments, driving revenue growth, controlling costs, and fostering team development.
In this role, you will be the captain of collaboration, supervising diverse teams and assisting the General Manager in maintaining seamless operations across all departments. You will proactively identify and solve challenges, ensuring that each day unfolds efficiently and reflects high standards of hospitality. A significant part of your responsibilities involves talent management – recruiting, hiring, and training new Guest Services staff while mentoring and facilitating continuous development programs for all employees, from hourly workers to management. Communication is paramount; you will serve as the main conduit between guests, colleagues, and upper management, ensuring that everyone feels heard and valued.
This position also demands strong financial acumen; you will leverage your skills in data analysis and budgeting to support hotel profitability. Technological proficiency, particularly with Windows Operating Systems and reporting tools, is essential for effective management and operational insights. Additionally, as an organization champion, you will uphold professional standards in appearance and grooming for the entire hotel team, reflecting the brand’s commitment to quality and professionalism.
Candidates must bring at least five years of progressive experience in hotel operations, specifically within Rooms or Food & Beverage, or hold an academic degree complemented by relevant industry experience. Supervisory experience is mandatory, along with the ability to remain calm, objective, and solution-focused under pressure. Certifications such as Food Handlers, Alcohol Awareness, CPR, and First Aid are required or must be obtained shortly after hiring.
The benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, short-term and long-term disability insurance, term life and AD&D insurance, paid time off, an employee assistance program, and a 401k retirement plan. The option for daily pay is also available, subject to the recruiter’s terms. Join Candlewood Suites Durham - RTP as an Assistant General Manager and become a hospitality hero who sparks memorable experiences for guests while advancing a rewarding career in a premier location.
