This Server position at Canal Street Cafe offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about providing outstanding guest service in a restaurant setting. Starting at $7.25 per hour plus tips, this role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Servers are essential team members responsible for ensuring guests have an enjoyable dining experience by taking and serving accurate food and beverage orders, engaging warmly with patrons, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment. The role demands a high level of energy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-moving atmosphere. Servers at Canal Street Cafe also operate point-of-sale systems, manage financial transactions accurately, and uphold all internal controls and policies related to service and safety.

In addition to direct guest interaction, servers must be knowledgeable about the venue’s menu, beverage selections, specials, and promotions to effectively guide and inform guests. They also need to have a working understanding of the overall casino and hotel operations to assist with inquiries and provide directions, enhancing the guest experience beyond the dining area. The job includes responsibilities for compliance with responsible alcohol service and maintaining workplace safety and cleanliness. Servers may be assigned to work at other venues depending on business needs, offering a diverse and engaging work environment.

Ideal candidates will have or be willing to obtain Responsible Alcohol and ServSafe certifications within 90 days, demonstrating a commitment to safety and professionalism. This role involves physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and operating equipment, making physical stamina and adherence to safety protocols critical. The work environment is typically fast-paced and can be noisy, especially on the casino floor where smoking may be permitted.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Six months of related experience preferred
Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems preferred
Ability to achieve Responsible Alcohol and ServSafe certifications within 90 days
Ability to maintain discretion in handling confidential information
Ability to interact with guests and team members professionally
Flexibility to work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
Physical ability to perform job duties including standing, walking, lifting up to 60 pounds
Willingness to comply with personal protective equipment requirements

Job Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of related experience are preferred
Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems preferred
Ability to successfully achieve Responsible Alcohol and ServSafe certifications within 90 days
Ability to maintain discretion in handling confidential information
Ability to interact with guests and team members in a professional manner
Ability to work irregular hours and extended shifts including late nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and using equipment safely
Knowledge of safety and health regulations relevant to server duties

Job Duties

Take and serve food and beverage orders accurately
Greet guests with a friendly expression of acknowledgment
Assess, anticipate, and attend to guest needs or concerns in a prompt and courteous manner
Operate and clean all equipment in server stations, including beverage dispensing systems and coffee machines
Use point-of-sale (POS) system to accurately enter orders, dispense correct change, and process credit card and other payment transactions
Ensure proper procedures are followed for handling of financial transactions, including balancing bank to sales report
Monitor responsible alcohol service to guests
Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe working environment
Maintain complete knowledge of the venue to include menu items, beverage selections, specials, promotions, events, and policies
Maintain thorough knowledge of casino and hotel in order to answer guest inquiries and provide directions
Work at other venues as assigned, based on business needs
Perform job duties in full compliance with departmental Internal Controls, policies, procedures, and regulations
Perform other duties as assigned
