The officer reports directly to the Director of Campus Safety, supporting a safe campus environment through regular patrols and active monitoring of campus buildings and grounds by foot, bicycle, or vehicle. In this role, the officer will prepare detailed and accurate reports of incidents, violations, and investigations, collaborating with local law enforcement, fire, and safety agencies to exchange vital information. The position also entails handling safety equipment, including vehicles, radios, handcuffs, and possibly chemical agents, to maintain effective safety operations. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of related experience in security or law enforcement or relevant military experience
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Acceptable current DMV driver’s record report
  • Certification in first aid and CPR issued within three months of employment
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts including Thursday to Monday 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • Physical capacity to perform security patrols, emergency response and lifting up to 25 lbs

Job Duties

  • Patrols campus buildings and grounds on foot, bicycle or by vehicle as required
  • Secures all buildings and structures and reports hazards, unsafe conditions and equipment failures
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls
  • Enforces university and civil laws pertaining to campus security
  • Communicates with university personnel and law, fire, and safety agencies to exchange information
  • Prepares clear and concise criminal, supplemental and incident reports
  • Investigates instances involving assault, battery, illegal substance use and other illegal acts
  • Enforces campus traffic regulations and assists with traffic control during special events
  • Assists in emergency situations such as accidents, fires and earthquakes
  • Responds to fire and burglar alarm activations and may extinguish small fires
  • Operates campus safety equipment including vehicles, radios and handcuffs
  • Provides information and responds to questions from campus community members
  • Provides testimony in court cases when required
  • Provides escort services as requested
  • Performs related duties as assigned
