Responsibilities include mise en place preparations, station setup, and the adept operation of various kitchen equipment such as deep fryers, broilers, stoves, steamers, and more. The Cook 1 also acts as a critical liaison between line staff and kitchen management to ensure smooth operations and adherence to established culinary standards.
In addition to exemplary cooking skills, this role demands strong organizational abilities to control food costs, prevent waste, and maintain optimal inventory levels. Coaching and mentoring less experienced kitchen staff will also be part of your duties, fostering a collaborative and high-performing kitchen environment. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years of culinary experience in a restaurant or hotel kitchen
- Advanced culinary skills
- Ability to operate and maintain various kitchen equipment
- Strong knife skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Valid US work authorization (no work sponsorship provided)
Job Qualifications
- High school education or cooking school/culinary institute education preferred
- Minimum two years background in restaurants or hotel restaurants preferred
- Advanced culinary knowledge expected
- Ability to operate, maintain, and properly clean kitchen equipment such as deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven, steam table, tilt kettle, waffle iron, flat top grill
- Advanced knife skills

- Ability to efficiently manage high-volume production
Job Duties
- Prepare consistent quality food and pastry items according to guest orders following recipe cards and production, portion, and presentation standards
- Complete mis en place and set-up station for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service
- Start food items that are prepared ahead of time, making sure not to prepare beyond estimated needs
- Effectively operate, maintain and properly clean kitchen equipment including deep fryer, broiler, stove, steamer, food processor, mixer, slicer, oven, steam table, tilt kettle, waffle iron, and flat top grill
- Act as a liaison between the line-staff and kitchen management to ensure kitchen staff operates at expected levels
- Date all food containers and rotate as per policies, maintaining proper temperatures for perishables
- Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up, noting any out-of-stock items or shortages
- Return unused food items to designated storage areas, covering and dating perishables
- Assist in setting up plans and actions to correct food cost problems, control food waste, loss, and usage per policies
- Mentor and train coworkers on various skills, stations, and tasks
- Complete ordering for the department via Birchstreet
