Job Description

Fresh Air Fund Camps, established in 1877, is a renowned organization dedicated to providing children from New York City with transformative outdoor summer experiences. Over its long history, Fresh Air Fund has impacted the lives of more than 1.8 million children, opening doors to personal growth, exploration, and opportunities for leadership. The organization operates six unique residential camps nestled in the scenic Hudson Valley, New York, offering a diverse range of programs tailored to varying age groups and interests. These programs include outdoor adventures, arts, and sciences, all designed to cultivate an enriching environment that supports both campers and staff in their development and enjoyment.

Fresh Air Fund’s commitment to delivering exceptional summer camps is complemented by year-round leadership opportunities, allowing its staff to grow professionally and personally beyond their seasonal roles. The camps emphasize community, safety, and engagement, ensuring every participant experiences a nurturing and dynamic atmosphere. Staff members live and work in a close-knit communal environment that encourages collaboration, respect, and shared responsibility.

The role of Camp Office Manager is critical within this vibrant camp setting, requiring someone organized, communicative, and dedicated to supporting smooth daily operations. This full-time seasonal position, available from June 11 to August 15, 2026, provides an opportunity to work directly within the heart of the camp community at the Hudson Valley location. The Office Manager acts as the first point of contact for parents, campers, and staff, playing a vital role in communication flow and administrative efficiency throughout the summer session.

Responsibilities include managing all office operations such as answering incoming calls, sorting mail, maintaining filing systems, and ensuring all paperwork is accurate and up-to-date. The Office Manager also reconciles camper, cabin, and bus lists within the camp’s database to maintain accurate records each session. This position demands a close collaboration with the Camp Director, administrative teams, and the New York City office staff to support various tasks and special projects that contribute to the camp’s overall success.

This role offers compensation ranging from $3,000 to $3,300 for the summer, depending on experience, and includes housing and meals. The Office Manager gains invaluable leadership, communication, and teamwork experience that enhances their professional resume. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, preferably have some college experience, and possess strong phone and office skills. Bilingual abilities, a driver’s license, and a strong interest in working with children and living outdoors are additional advantages.

Living and working at Fresh Air Fund Camps means embracing a unique communal lifestyle, including shared cabins, group dining, and active participation in camp activities such as campfires, hikes, swimming, and village meetings. Staff members must prioritize camper needs, uphold safety and community standards, and demonstrate professionalism and empathy. The position is also physically demanding at times and requires staff to be flexible, emotionally mature, and ready to face challenges in a fast-paced, interactive environment.

The Fresh Air Fund is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion, encouraging candidates of all backgrounds to apply. They also uphold vaccination requirements in accordance with health regulations to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
