Job Description
Indiana Grocery Group is a well-established grocery store chain dedicated to delivering exceptional shopping and customer experiences through its various departments, including a specialized bakery section. Known for its commitment to quality, freshness, and beautifully crafted specialty items, the bakery team at Indiana Grocery Group plays a vital role in maintaining the reputation for excellence that the company has cultivated over the years. The grocery store environment fosters a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusiveness, ensuring that everyone—customers and employees alike—feels valued and appreciated. Employees at Indiana Grocery Group are supported with opportunities for growth and development, making it an attractive place to work for individuals passionate about customer service and quality food production.
The role of Cake Decorator at Indiana Grocery Group is an important position within the bakery department, responsible for preparing and artistically decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other specialty desserts to meet company standards as well as specific customer requests. As a Cake Decorator, creativity and precision are essential, as the decorated products must not only look visually pleasing but also maintain high taste and quality standards. This role goes beyond decoration— the Cake Decorator collaborates closely with the Bakery Manager or Bakery Crew Leader and bakery team members to meet production deadlines, manage special orders for occasions such as birthdays and weddings, and ensure products are properly merchandised within the grocery store setting.
This full-time position demands a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the dynamic needs of the bakery and its customers. The Cake Decorator is expected to have hands-on skills with icing, fondant, piping, airbrushing, and other cake decorating techniques, supporting the creation of customized cakes that match the customers' design ideas. Attention to detail and excellent customer service skills are crucial, as Cake Decorators frequently assist customers with order placement, design ideas, and product selection.
In addition to the artistic aspects, the role requires maintenance of a clean, safe, and sanitary workspace, adherence to food safety standards, rotation of products based on freshness, and monitoring decorating supplies to communicate restocking needs. Working in a fast-paced grocery store bakery environment using tools such as ovens, mixers, and decorating instruments, the Cake Decorator must be physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 40 pounds. This position promotes teamwork and collaboration within the bakery group to support overall department goals and ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Indiana Grocery Group values diversity and inclusion, creating a workplace culture where all associates are treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, age, or any legally protected status. Joining as a Cake Decorator means being part of a team that emphasizes creativity, quality, professionalism, and commitment to excellent customer experiences within a respected grocery store brand.
