The role involves comprehensive responsibilities related to the onsite preparation, setup, serving, and sanitation of meals within the school environment. The person in this position works under general direction to maintain a safe, sanitary, and efficient kitchen and cafeteria environment. Attention to detail and adherence to health regulations such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines are essential aspects of the job. The role also includes operating kitchen equipment like ovens, warmers, steam tables, mixers, and dishwashers, ensuring all tools and areas are properly cleaned and maintained to uphold food safety standards. Additionally, this position may carry responsibilities related to financial transactions including operating a cash register, handling student meal payments, and assisting with bank deposits, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the job beyond food service.

This position requires the preparation and service of a variety of foods and beverages according to established standards and production guidelines, with careful portion control and temperature monitoring to maintain food quality and safety. The individual must be capable of managing inventory and waste, ensuring that the kitchen area remains organized and sanitary at all times.   • Willingness to learn and attend in-service training

Job Duties

  • Assists in preparation/service of a variety of foods/beverages in accordance with established guidelines/work production standards
  • Sets up for service and serves food to students/faculty/staff
  • Stores remaining food and supplies in accordance with instruction and portion control
  • Ensures that food temperatures are constant and accurate, taking and recording temperatures in accordance with HACCP guidelines
  • Maintains standards of food quality and food safety
  • Operates and cleans all kitchen equipment including oven, warmers, steam table, mixer, slicer, hot food carts and dishwasher
  • Cleans work areas and deposits refuse in waste receptacles
  • Attends in-service training as needed
  • May operate a cash register, assist with collection of monies received and account for student meals (free and reduced meals/EDS) a la carte items and adult meals
  • May balance receipts with POS, prepare funds for bank deposits and prepare bank deposit reports
  • May assist in taking inventory of food and supplies
  • Performs related duties as assigned
