Job Description

Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) is a well-established public school district committed to providing quality education and supportive services to its diverse student population. With a focus on fostering a positive learning environment, OKCPS continuously aims to enhance the overall educational experience by offering comprehensive programs including student nutrition services. These services play a crucial role in ensuring students receive nutritious meals that promote their health and academic success. OKCPS operates numerous school cafeterias across the district, each managed by dedicated professionals who oversee daily food service operations, maintain safety standards, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The district values teamwork, professional development, and commitment to student welfare in all its staff members.

The Student Nutrition Services/Cafeteria Supervisor position at OKCPS is a pivotal role responsible for managing the overall operation of a school cafeteria. This role requires an experienced leader to oversee the cafeteria team in all operational aspects, including receiving, safeguarding, preparing, cooking, serving, and cleaning up food and non-food supplies. The supervisor ensures that all activities comply with relevant federal, state, and local Child Nutrition Services policies and procedures.

This full-time position typically requires 8 hours per day with variable hours based on the school site, covering 183 workdays annually. Compensation is determined by experience under salary schedule 201. The supervisor will report to the Operations Coordinator and may be required to operate a district vehicle for tasks such as traveling to different school sites or supporting catering and special events within the district.

Key responsibilities include training and developing cafeteria staff, managing inventory and orders of food and supplies, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and communicating effectively with school principals, staff, students, and vendors. The supervisor must uphold the highest standards of personal hygiene and appearance, foster a collaborative team environment, and partake in ongoing professional development through trainings and certifications, including USDA standards.

This position is classified as Safety Sensitive under Oklahoma regulations, meaning candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening, and employees are subject to strict policies regarding marijuana use even if licensed medically. The role demands physical stamina for frequent lifting of food containers and equipment and requires the ability to perform various physical activities such as standing, walking, and handling tools safely.

Overall, the Cafeteria Supervisor at OKCPS plays a vital role in promoting student nutrition and the smooth operation of school food services through leadership, compliance, and dedication to quality standards, supporting the district’s mission to provide a nurturing and effective educational environment.
