The Food Service Coordinator at JP Schools plays a critical role in the daily operation of the school’s cafeterias and catering services. This position is essential to maintaining a positive and healthy environment for food provision, ensuring that all meals meet nutritional standards, and are prepared and served efficiently. It involves working cooperatively with school administration to provide exceptional meal service and support catered functions throughout the school system.

In this role, the coordinator develops and manages recipes and menus used across cafeteria and catering functions. This includes providing input on pricing strategies to ensure cost-effectiveness and affordability while maintaining quality. The position involves logistical responsibilities such as placing orders for food and supplies, receiving deliveries, and maintaining accurate inventory records of all food and supplies. The coordinator ensures that the kitchen runs smoothly by calculating the amount of food needed for meal preparation and monitoring both the quality and quantity of food produced.

The Food Service Coordinator also oversees employee production schedules, cleaning protocols, and ensures that new employees receive orientation and training. This supervisory responsibility extends to monitoring performance, providing constructive feedback, and conducting staff evaluations to promote continuous improvement. Moreover, the coordinator identifies repair needs and manages financial transactions related to meal payments, ensuring transparency and accuracy.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in food service operation
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds or 100 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work flexible hours including scheduled events
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capacity to supervise and train employees
  • Ability to maintain sanitation and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented independent self-starter
  • Prior successful experience in institutional or retail food service operation
  • Skilled in quantity food preparation and use of food service equipment
  • Experience in catering operations with creativity and food presentation skills
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative management style with ability to work with diverse individuals
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in group settings and accept supervision
  • Ability to work flexible hours depending on scheduled events
  • Three or more years of experience in food service considered desirable

Job Duties

  • Work cooperatively with school administration to provide meal service and catering functions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Develop recipes and menus for cafeteria and catering functions
  • Provide input into pricing for cafeteria and catering functions
  • Place orders for food and supplies
  • Receive, date, and store deliveries of food products and supplies
  • Take physical inventory of all food and supplies
  • Calculate amount of food used in meal preparation and issue to employees
  • Monitor food production for quality and quantity
  • Develop employee production and cleaning schedules and monitor completion
  • Provide new employee orientation and on the job training
  • Identify the need for equipment repair or replacement and notify appropriate personnel
  • Conduct financial transactions for meal payments including handling cash or checks
  • Interact with administration regarding questions, complaints, and problems
  • Monitor employee performance and provide feedback and corrective action
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations
  • Maintain safe working conditions and sanitation standards in food preparation and serving areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services
