Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) is a public community college located in Lakewood, Colorado. Known for its commitment to extraordinary education, RRCC fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment emphasizing student achievement, staff empowerment, and community engagement. As an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), RRCC proudly serves a diverse student population and is dedicated to equity, inclusion, and belonging. The college operates under core values of learning, collaboration, community, belonging, and empowerment, encouraging a culture where all individuals can thrive and contribute uniquely. RRCC is a part of the Colorado Community College System and maintains a strong reputation for academic excellence, workforce training, and offering accessible education to all members of the community. The college prioritizes providing robust support services, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive benefits for its employees.
The Cafeteria Cook position at RRCC’s Lakewood campus, within the RRCC Food Services department under the Division of Finance and Administration, is an essential role dedicated to preparing quality meals and maintaining efficient food service operations. This full-time, professional technical position focuses on grill cook duties, requiring someone with proficient cooking skills and a strong customer service orientation. The role is full-time with an exempt status and offers a starting salary range between $45,845 and $50,430 annually, commensurate with education and experience. The working hours align primarily with the academic calendar, operating Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM when classes are in session and Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM during breaks. During the summer 12-week period, full-time employees work 70% (30 hours per week), transitioning to a standard full schedule for the remainder of the year.
As a Cafeteria Cook, the successful candidate will be responsible for cooking orders to customer specifications, ensuring the grill area remains stocked and clean, and adhering strictly to safety and sanitation standards. This front-of-house, cook-to-order role requires sustained physical activity, including standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and working in varying temperature conditions such as hot kitchen environments and refrigerated areas. The cook must be reliable, self-directed, and able to follow recipes accurately while maintaining excellent knife skills and thorough knowledge of time and temperature controls to guarantee food safety. Additionally, some food preparation for catering events and meals for the on-site children’s center may be necessary. The role demands strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers, students, and team members, ensuring a smooth service experience.
RRCC emphasizes working with diverse populations, including historically marginalized communities such as people of color, LGBTQ+ members, veterans, first-generation graduates, and individuals with disabilities. Candidates with experience serving these populations are encouraged to apply. The college's environment values equity and inclusion, and all hiring decisions are made without discrimination based on any protected status under applicable law. Employees enjoy extensive benefits including flexible retirement plans, comprehensive health insurance options, generous paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee assistance programs, showcasing RRCC’s commitment to employee well-being and professional growth.
This position requires adherence to physical and cognitive demands such as lifting, working safely in various temperature conditions, and utilizing interpersonal skills for clear communication. A background check and potential motor vehicle record review are mandatory for final candidates. Participation in Colorado PERA retirement program is a condition of employment, and direct deposit of payroll is required. Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) is a tobacco and smoke-free campus that values a respectful and supportive workplace where every employee is empowered to succeed and grow.
