Fairmont Pittsburgh is seeking a dedicated Culinary Team Member to join their team and contribute to the hotel's growing reputation for culinary excellence. This full-time position entails preparing food for daily lunch and dinner services and serving prepared meals to employees, ensuring a seamless and efficient kitchen operation. The role requires a strong knowledge of food storage, rotation, and maintenance practices, essential for upholding Fairmont’s standards for quality and safety.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing mise en place preparations, ensuring the café remains well-stocked with ice, sodas, and sufficient food throughout service periods. The culinary team member will ensure that all food served is flavorful, healthy, and meets the high standards expected in a luxury hotel setting. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the café and dining areas is also a key part of this role, including assisting with table upkeep and ensuring condiments and napkins are readily available.

Job Qualifications

  • Previous culinary experience is required
  • Experience in banquets is an asset
  • Ability to learn correct station set up, cooking techniques and cleaning routines
  • Constantly checks quality and quantities of mise en place
  • Is a team player and willing to help when and wherever needed
  • Able to work with cooks on maintaining walk-ins and shared areas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate clearly
  • All tasks are completed with 100 percent attention to detail
  • Must have at least basic knife skills
  • Must be flexible and willing to work in all areas of the kitchen
  • Requires open availability including weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Prepares food for daily lunch and dinner meal periods
  • Serves prepared food to employees
  • Has strong knowledge of properly storing, rotating and maintaining products
  • Ability to check and complete mise en place
  • Ensures café is kept stocked with ice and sodas
  • Ensure the café has an adequate amount of food for each service period
  • Ensures café food is flavorful and healthy
  • Assists to ensure café is clean and organized
  • Assists to ensure tables are clean and stocked with napkins and condiments
  • Remains in the café during peak hours to ensure a clean and full buffet
  • Work with the Chef team to minimize food waste and support sustainability initiatives
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned
