The role of Cafeteria Assistant Manager at IDEA Public Schools involves assisting the Cafeteria Manager in overseeing the campus meal program with a mission of becoming one of the healthiest school districts nationwide. This position requires adherence to USDA and state food and nutrition standards and involves managing daily operations such as food and supply ordering, monitoring food quality, and ensuring all students receive nutritious and appealing meals every day. The Assistant Manager also handles sales records, processes payments, manages inventory, and provides excellent customer service to parents and students alike. They play a pivotal role in supporting the Cafeteria Manager to achieve team goals, maintain compliance during audits, and contribute to the school’s broader educational mission. This full-time position is compensated hourly between $16.96 and $21.20 depending on experience and includes eligibility for performance bonuses tied to team and goal achievements.

Beyond the operational responsibilities, the Cafeteria Assistant Manager is a key leader within the school’s food service team, responsible for motivating and supervising food service specialists and trainees, ensuring compliance with counting and claiming procedures, and promoting a healthy eating culture within the campus. They are involved in staff development, including recruiting potential candidates and providing feedback to encourage growth. The role demands a good knowledge of food production methods, safety protocols, organizational skills, and computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years experience in food service, restaurant, or hospitality industry
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Ability to motivate, delegate, and lead a team
  • Knowledge of food production methods and management
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to interpret data such as charts and graphs
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions and seek clarification
  • Demonstrates problem solving, adaptability, and flexibility
  • Good mathematical and basic finance skills
  • Willingness to obtain Food Handler's Card within 30 days if not already held

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2 plus years in food service, restaurant, or hospitality industry required
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license required
  • Valid Food Handler's Card preferred, willing to obtain within first 30 days

Job Duties

  • Direct the team to execute the approved menu 100 percent every day
  • Ensure every student participating in the meal program takes a reimbursable meal
  • Ensure all methods of counting and claiming are compliant
  • Observe that counting and claiming is happening at time of service
  • Check that all counts of student meals are accurate
  • Enter all counts correctly into internal trackers and PrimeroEdge
  • Recruit top notch Food Service Specialists and substitutes from the area
  • Hold weekly employee huddles covering operations and nutritional topics
  • Review and submit employee timesheets every Tuesday
  • Use the Staff Development Cycle to provide formal feedback on work performance and growth
  • Develop Cafeteria Assistant Manager and Food Service Specialists for potential promotion
  • Conduct Breakfast in the Class audits with a target compliance accuracy of 100 percent
  • Report recipe and menu errors immediately
  • Use campus parent functions to promote meal program participation
  • Identify students bringing lunch from home and report findings
  • Promote consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables through food preparation and display
  • Rotate milk to ensure freshest product availability
  • Decorate serving line with appealing signage
  • Implement and maintain salad bar where approved
  • Follow the designated menu daily
  • Follow established food service policies and state guidelines
  • Track changes in compliance and implement as needed
  • Correct non-compliant issues
  • Reach out to HQ for guidance in finance, nutrition, and operations
  • Complete food production records daily
