Job Description
Grand Central Bakery, founded in 1989, pioneered the artisan bread movement in the Pacific Northwest by bringing rustic, handmade loaves to local tables. A Certified B Corporation, this company is dedicated not only to baking high-quality products but also to sustainability and social responsibility. Their commitment to using business as a force for good spans their entire operation, from sourcing sustainable ingredients to investing deeply in their communities and fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace. Grand Central Bakery operates vibrant cafés that serve as beloved local gathering spaces, blending great food with community values and environmental stewardship.
The Café Team Member plays a crucial role in maintaining the warm, inviting atmosphere of Grand Central Bakery's bustling cafés. This part-time position, generally involving 24 or fewer hours weekly, offers shifts covering retail open, mid-shift, and retail close schedules, with flexibility and a requirement to work Fridays through Sundays. With a pay rate of $16.96 per hour plus tips averaging $12 to $14 an hour, this role is ideal for individuals passionate about great food, excellent customer service, and contributing positively to a mission-driven company.
As a Café Team Member, you will be at the forefront of delivering Grand Central Bakery's customer experience. Your responsibilities include preparing and serving handcrafted sandwiches, coffee, and espresso drinks—complete with artistic latte touches—while adhering to high-quality standards and recipes. Efficiency and skill are essential, especially during peak business rushes. You will also operate point-of-sale systems, manage cash with precision, and regularly engage in café upkeep to maintain a clean, welcoming environment. Your ability to multitask across different shifts and stations, including the sandwich bar and barista station, supports the team’s seamless operation.
Grand Central Bakery values team players who embody customer orientation, mission focus, and positive impact. Employees are encouraged to demonstrate drive, agility to adapt to change, and informal communication to foster a collaborative atmosphere. This role requires physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds frequently, while managing a fast-paced, often loud environment filled with flour and grain dust exposure. Compliance with health and safety regulations, including maintaining a valid Food Handler's Card, is mandatory.
Working at Grand Central Bakery means aligning with core values centered on creating an anti-racist and culturally inclusive workplace. The company actively promotes racial tolerance and respectful communication among staff and customers. It's not only about making food and drinks; it's about nurturing community connections, supporting each other, and contributing to a greater social mission through daily actions. If you thrive in a team-oriented setting and want to join a company that leads with heart and purpose, this Café Team Member position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity.
