Job Description
Grand Central Bakery, established in 1989, pioneered the bread revolution in the Pacific Northwest by bringing rustic artisan loaves to local tables. Since its inception, the bakery has been deeply rooted in values that champion sustainability, community investment, and employee care. Certified as a B Corporation, Grand Central Bakery aligns itself with a global movement of businesses dedicated to using commerce as a force for good, making a positive impact on the environment and society while maintaining high-quality artisan standards. The bakery’s commitment to these principles shapes every aspect of their operations, from sourcing premium ingredients to fostering an inclusive, supportive workplace culture.
Joining Grand Central Bakery as a Café Team Member means becoming part of an enthusiastic, passionate team that creates vibrant and welcoming café environments cherished by their loyal customers. This position is key to ensuring that each café remains a warm and inviting space where customers can enjoy delicious, handcrafted food and drink options. Café Team Members are engaged in preparing and serving sandwiches, bread, pastries, and expertly crafted coffee and espresso beverages, contributing to the overall customer experience by maintaining high standards of product quality, cleanliness, and service.
This part-time role offers a starting pay rate of $16.96 per hour plus tips, which typically add an additional $7.00 to $9.00 per hour. The schedule requires flexibility with the ability to work weekends and various shifts including Retail Open, Mid-Shift, and Retail Close. The role demands energy, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit. Café Team Members must be skilled in using the Point-of-Sale system, sandwich bar, and barista stations, managing peak times efficiently while serving with enthusiasm and professionalism. The role also includes maintaining a clean café environment, assisting with dishwashing, bussing, and other cleaning tasks, showcasing a ‘pitches in’ mentality.
The ideal candidate brings not only culinary skill but also a strong alignment with Grand Central Bakery’s mission, vision, and values, including a commitment to creating an anti-racist and culturally inclusive workplace. This role requires strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to maintain composure during busy periods. Café Team Members are expected to uphold rigorous safety and cash handling standards, show responsiveness in addressing workplace hazards, and continuously enhance their competencies throughout their employment.
Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a vibrant, mission-driven food establishment where passion for artisan bread and customer service meet a commitment to sustainability and community impact. If you thrive in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment and want to be part of a company using business as a force for good, Grand Central Bakery invites you to join their team as a Café Team Member.
