Daily Provisions, born in 2017 from the kitchen of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Cafe in New York City, is a beloved and rapidly growing collection of all-day neighborhood cafes with strong restaurant roots. These cafes offer an elevated yet familiar menu that delights guests with classic dishes such as their signature crullers, all-day breakfast sandwiches featuring runny yolks, and freshly brewed coffee and teas. As the day progresses, Daily Provisions transitions into serving chef-driven salads, made-to-order sandwiches, seasonal sides, and comforting dinner options like the famous Roast Chicken. Over a short span, it has expanded beyond New York City to multiple locations including Jersey City, Boston, and Washington, D.C., establishing itself as a well-recognized neighborhood institution among food lovers.

The role of the Cafe Sous Chef at Daily Provisions is critical to maintaining the high standards and smooth daily operation of the kitchen. Reporting directly to the Cafe Chef, the Sous Chef supports kitchen leadership by ensuring that food quality, preparation, and service standards are met at every stage. This role requires a hands-on leader who can oversee daily kitchen operations including ingredient par management, food execution, health and safety compliance, and team development. In addition to managing kitchen logistics, the Cafe Sous Chef plays an integral role in coaching and developing the back-of-house team, including Line Cooks and other hourly staff, to foster a positive team culture focused on growth, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This full-time position is offered with an annual compensation of approximately $70,000, coupled with performance-based bonus opportunities that reward impact and excellence. The Cafe Sous Chef is expected to partner closely with both front-of-house and back-of-house teams to implement the unique systems, routines, and service checklists designed by Daily Provisions to deliver superb guest experiences across multiple channels — including in-restaurant dining, third-party delivery, and catering. They ensure consistent, timely flow of service during busy periods and maintain open communication within all teams to align expectations and culinary knowledge. The role also emphasizes the importance of training and educating front-of-house team members about the menu and culinary details through tastings and presentations, helping enhance the guest experience from start to finish.

Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in culinary/kitchen leadership and casual dining
- Excellent food & beverage knowledge and proven passion for culinary excellence and exceeding guest expectations
- Experience in training and developing back of house team members
- Ability to communicate in a direct, respectful, and transparent manner across all teams
- Understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Certification in a hospitality-related field, or equivalent, preferred
- English fluency and additional languages preferred, but not required

Job Duties
- Consistently deliver a culture of Enlightened Hospitality to guests and team members
- Partner with Front of House and Back of House team members to enforce systems, routines, and checklists the Daily Provisions way as well as deliver excellent guest experiences across all channels, including in-restaurant dining, third-party delivery, and catering
- Ensure high performance and maintain excellence & hospitality throughout each day’s specific service periods
- Ensure consistent execution of food and timely flow of service by directing the team and effectively expediting service
- Educate FOH Team Members on all aspects of food menu & culinary procedures through tastings and staff presentation
- Maintain positive working relationship with dining room leaders and line staff at all times
- Ensure that all recipes, product, food preparations and food execution meet Daily Provisions' specifications and commitment to culinary excellence
- To the highest degree possible, ensure that kitchen is kept clean, safe and up to all “A” level health code standards
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained to execute station properly, partnering with the Cafe Chef to make sure that all new hires are adequately trained before beginning their new role
