Job Description

Cafe Matcha is a specialized matcha-focused cafe concept under the Alfred brand, which first opened in 2013 on Melrose Place, Los Angeles. Alfred started as a neighborhood coffee shop with a vision to revolutionize the coffee culture, emphasizing innovation, excellence, and creative collaborations to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Over the years, it has expanded to more than 20 locations across Los Angeles and beyond, setting a high standard for coffee culture globally. Cafe Matcha continues this legacy with a distinct focus on matcha and tea culture, combining nostalgic retro diner aesthetics with a modern approach to sourcing, preparation, and craft of matcha beverages. This unique combination makes the matcha experience approachable, elevated, and enjoyable for all customers, whether they're seasoned matcha enthusiasts or trying it for the first time.

Cafe Matcha Studio City is hiring a full-time Barback to join their team. The position reports directly to the Cafe Manager and is classified as non-exempt. The wage for this role is $18.67 per hour plus tips, with the total hourly compensation ranging approximately between $22.50 and $26.50 depending on tips. This full-time role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about delivering excellent customer service, interested in the intricacies of matcha and tea culture, and thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environments.

The Barback plays a crucial role in ensuring the cafe operates smoothly by supporting baristas and maintaining an inviting atmosphere that reflects the Cafe Matcha brand's high standards. Responsibilities include preparing the environment, monitoring inventory, upholding cleanliness and hygiene standards, and assisting in food and beverage preparation. Barbacks contribute significantly to the overall energy and guest experience by fostering a warm, welcoming environment and sharing product knowledge. They are also expected to collaborate effectively with team members to meet operational goals and uphold safety and compliance standards. This role requires flexibility, physical stamina, strong communication skills, and a commitment to creating positive customer interactions consistently.

Working at Cafe Matcha offers growth and advancement opportunities within a creative, collaborative team culture. Employees benefit from various perks including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off accruals, 401(k) eligibility after one year, free shift drinks, employee discounts, and access to therapy memberships through the Open Path Collective. The company values reliable attendance and availability, emphasizing a minimum of three shifts per week, with occasional training or team events outside regular shift hours. Overall, the Barback position at Cafe Matcha Studio City offers a dynamic and rewarding career path in a vibrant and evolving segment of the cafe industry.
