Job Description
Commonwealth Joe is a reputable specialty coffee company known for its commitment to quality, sustainability, and exceptional customer experiences. Operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, Commonwealth Joe focuses on delivering top-tier coffee and service to its customers, fostering community connections, and maintaining a culture of continuous learning and teamwork. As a leader in the specialty coffee industry, the company values professionalism, humility, and excellence across all levels of its operations.
The role of the Café Manager at Commonwealth Joe is a crucial leadership position responsible for the overall success and smooth operation of the retail café. This position requires a proactive and resourceful leader who can think quickly and make sound decisions under pressure. The Café Manager is the primary point of contact for the café team and is expected to foster a welcoming, high-performing work environment that embodies the company’s core values of excellence, humility, teamwork, and continuous learning.
As the Café Manager, you will be accountable for achieving financial, product, and brand objectives on a monthly and quarterly basis. You will lead your team by setting clear goals, aligning priorities, and ensuring initiatives support broader company objectives. Your role involves a hands-on leadership style where you are actively involved in daily operations, providing support where needed, and ensuring high standards of quality, customer service, and professionalism are consistently met.
This role requires strong analytical capabilities, including using data and reporting tools to monitor performance metrics such as sales targets, customer satisfaction, labor costs, and product costs. You will manage inventory effectively to control costs, reduce waste, and maintain consistent product quality. Staffing management is another key aspect, which includes recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and ongoing development of the café team. You will build strong relationships with team members, promote a culture of accountability and learning, and identify future leaders within the team to support long-term business stability.
Further responsibilities include coordinating routine equipment maintenance, managing unforeseen challenges such as staffing gaps or equipment repairs, and partnering with the Café Director to engage the community and enhance customer loyalty. This role demands flexibility, as you will be required to work approximately 40 hours per week with most hours spent on-site, actively supporting both the team and customers.
Starting pay for this position is $60,000, with a scheduled 90-day performance review and potential salary increase. This full-time, in-person role offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, voluntary benefits like short-term disability and life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and the perk of free coffee. The Café Manager role at Commonwealth Joe is ideal for those passionate about coffee, hospitality, and delivering exceptional guest experiences, who also possess strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
