This opportunity is for a Part-Time Café Line Cook position within the Auxiliary Enterprises Division, specifically in the AC Cafe department. The role is designed for individuals passionate about food preparation and providing excellent customer service in an educational setting. The line cook will be responsible for preparing food and beverages daily, ensuring adherence to stringent food safety and cleanliness standards while maintaining open communication amongst team members to guarantee quality and timely service. The position requires compliance with local, state, and federal food safety guidelines, a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe working environment, and the ability to support multiple aspects of café operations through cross-training. This role reports within a non-exempt status and offers a flexible part-time schedule, including the possibility of working days, nights, weekends, holidays, or various special events. The pay grade for this position is 3, with an hourly wage range of $15.10 to $22.65, determined based on education, experience, and internal comparisons.

As a vital member of the service team, the Part-Time Café Line Cook will execute tasks such as setting up and stocking stations, preparing diverse menu items with varying cook times, ensuring compliance with health codes, and promoting workplace safety practices to support a positive and effective café environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of cooking experience in a food service operation
  • Current Food Handler Certificate
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver supplies
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and events
  • Ability to use hot surfaces, sharp objects, and commercial equipment
  • Completion of pre-employment criminal background check
  • Possible pre-employment drug test

  • Ability to communicate professionally with diverse populations

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associates degree preferred
  • One year of cooking experience in a food service operation required
  • Three years or more of cooking experience in a food service operation preferred
  • Current Food Handler Certificate
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow café recipes accurately
  • Ability to maintain high standards of sanitization and cleanliness

Job Duties

  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies in preparation for service
  • Ensure food is prepared and served in compliance with local and state health code regulations including temperature, taste, and smell
  • Perform various tasks simultaneously including preparing a variety of menu items with varying cook times and preparation requirements
  • Prep station before and after service
  • Observe and promote continual improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Ensure open communication between front and back of house to maintain quality and timely service
  • Maintain a high standard of sterilization and cleaning procedures
  • Observe, identify, and report issues that would affect service in a timely and respectful manner to appropriate staff and management
  • Offer outstanding customer service to students, faculty, and staff, by preparing food or drinks and regular cleaning
  • Interact with all departmental personnel, students, vendors, community, and management in a professional and respectful manner
  • Complete cross-training in essential café functions to support operational continuity and maintain consistent service standards
  • Perform other work-related duties as needed
