The Urban Air Café Lead position is a hands-on, practical role primarily responsible for overseeing the daily shift operations at the café. This role involves managing and guiding a team of café staff members to deliver consistent, high-quality food and beverage service. The Café Lead’s responsibilities encompass both front-of-house and kitchen operations, including cooking, food preparation, and serving a variety of menu items to guests. Unlike purely supervisory roles, the Café Lead is actively involved in the workflow, spending much of their time working alongside team members in the fast-paced café environment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong sense of urgency without compromising friendliness and guest interaction. This role demands excellent leadership capabilities, as the Café Lead is expected to support proper execution of all operational processes, manage inventory and deliveries, minimize wastage through effective storage and rotation, and maintain outstanding cleanliness and hygiene standards. Additionally, the Café Lead sets an example in punctuality, attendance, and positive attitude, creating a professional yet enjoyable atmosphere for the café team.
The position requires a high degree of adaptability, including willingness to work beyond scheduled shifts as business needs dictate. The Café Lead also plays a key role in staff training, ensuring team members are proficient in preparing the full menu and maintaining service standards. Serving as the point person in the absence of the Café Manager, the Café Lead must handle guest concerns promptly and efficiently.

Job Qualifications
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred
- Minimum of six months to one year of prior food and beverage experience, quick service and/or restaurant experience
- One year of leadership experience preferred
- Must have a current ServSafe or similar food handling certification, or be willing to get one within the first 30 days of employment
Job Duties
- Support the proper execution of all processes, systems, and standards
- Ensure all deliveries are received correctly and logged in the event the Café Manager is not present at the time of delivery
- Maintain storage and rotation to minimize wastage
- Manage the Café Team, ensuring they always work to the expected standards
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and have the willingness to stay beyond when business or circumstances dictate
- Train Café Team in preparing the full menu and the front of house staff in preparing drinks and ready-to-eat foods to the consistently high standard required
- Set a high standard and good example for the Café Team regarding punctuality, attendance, and attitude
- ensure these standards are maintained at all times
- Set a high standard and good example for the Café Team regarding cleanliness and hygiene, including a regular deep clean schedule
- Maintain well-organized and easy-to-access Café and storage areas
- Handle guest concerns regarding the Café in absence of the Café Manager
- Participate in regular staff meetings and training as and when required
