The position of Café Lead at Urban Air Madison is a vital role within this innovative company. The Café Lead is responsible for managing the shift operations of the Urban Air Café, ensuring daily operational flow, and leading the cafe team with a hands-on approach. This role is highly practical, requiring much of the shift to be spent in the kitchen and service areas where food is prepared, cooked, and served. The Café Lead must maintain a fast pace with a strong sense of urgency without sacrificing the friendly and welcoming demeanor that defines Urban Air’s customer service standards.

As a shift leader, the Café Lead supports the proper execution of food handling processes, operational systems, and company standards, ensuring that all tasks are performed efficiently and to expected quality levels. Responsibilities include managing deliveries, maintaining inventory through proper storage and rotation to minimize food wastage, and training team members on menu preparation and front-of-house service. The café team looks to this leader to model high standards of punctuality, attendance, attitude, cleanliness, and hygiene, including participation in routine deep cleaning schedules.

The Café Lead also plays a crucial role in guest relations by handling concerns and issues in the absence of the Café Manager, maintaining a positive and solution-driven atmosphere within the café. This position requires flexibility to work scheduled shifts and stay beyond the shift as needed to meet business demands. Job Qualifications

  • minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred
  • minimum of six months to one year of prior food and beverage experience (quick service and/or restaurant experience)
  • one year of leadership experience preferred
  • must have a current ServSafe or similar food handling certification, or be willing to get one within the first 30 days of employment

Job Duties

  • support the proper execution of all processes, systems, and standards
  • ensure all deliveries are received correctly and logged in the event the café manager is not present at the time of delivery
  • maintain storage, and rotation to minimize wastage
  • manage the café team, ensuring they always work to the expected standards
  • adhere to scheduled shifts and have the willingness to stay beyond when business or circumstances dictate
  • train café team in preparing the full menu and the front of house staff in preparing drinks and ready-to-eat foods to the consistently high standard required
  • set a high standard and good example for the café team regarding punctuality, attendance, and attitude
  • ensure these standards are maintained at all times
  • set a high standard and good example for the café team regarding cleanliness and hygiene, including a regular deep clean schedule
  • maintain well-organized and easy-to-access café and storage areas
  • handle guest concerns regarding the café in absence of the café manager
  • participate in regular staff meetings and training as and when required
