The establishment is also the home of UC Berkeley's ottoy Initiative, which fosters an understanding of and respect for the Ohlone people and culture, aiming to repair and improve the university's relationship with the Ohlone community.

Within this vibrant setting, the ammatka Kitchen is situated in the Lawrence Hall of Science, offering multiple culinary experiences aligned with the ottoy Initiative's goals. The kitchen prides itself on preparing, cooking, and serving a mix of made-to-order and grab-and-go food items that cater to onsite visitors and other campus venues. The culinary direction is guided by the ottoy Initiative leaders, who are also the founders of Cafe Ohlone. This unique culinary operation highlights indigenous foods and cultural appreciation through its offerings, creating a meaningful connection between food and heritage.

The General Manager role at ammatka Kitchen entails comprehensive management of daily operations, ensuring seamless food service activities at the onsite cafe and other associated venues. Responsibilities include supervising food preparation, service, staffing, facility cleanliness, customer engagement, and financial management. The manager works closely with the ottoy Initiative leaders and Lawrence Hall staff to align food service operations with the initiative's mission and budgetary allowances. This position demands a flexible and resourceful approach to accommodate diverse customer needs across various venues and seasons while practicing careful stewardship of resources to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.

Leadership in this role involves fostering an inclusive and culturally competent environment, as the clientele comes from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing the goals of the ottoy Initiative and connecting food to culture. They must demonstrate strong skills in food service management, quality control, safety compliance, event coordination, and staff development. This is a full-time, one-year contract position with UC Berkeley, offering a competitive salary range determined by qualifications and a comprehensive benefits package. The position requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and mandates contemporary food safety certifications and a valid driver’s license. Job Duties
