Job Description
Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) is a renowned institution that prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Situated in beautiful Lakewood, Colorado, RRCC serves a diverse student body with quality education and excellent community resources. The college's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion extends beyond classrooms and into its employment opportunities, including student employment roles that provide valuable work experience alongside academic pursuits. Within its vibrant campus life, RRCC offers a variety of student positions that not only support the college's operational needs but also contribute to students' personal and professional growth.
One such opportunity is the position of Cafe Barista at RRCC's Coffee Shop, located at the Lakewood campus. This student employment role is categorized as work study, offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $18.81 to $19.31 per hour. This position is ideal for students seeking a part-time work schedule that complements their class commitments. The typical work hours are during the semester from Monday to Friday, split into two shifts: 7:00 am to 11:00 am and 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, with some flexibility potentially required outside these hours.
As a Cafe Barista, the student will be an integral part of the RRCC Food Services team, reporting directly to Alexander Gilliam. The role involves much more than just preparing coffee; it requires a friendly demeanor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain a welcoming atmosphere that makes every customer feel valued. Key responsibilities encompass handling cash transactions, washing dishes, fulfilling coffee and tea orders, mixing specialty drinks, cleaning and restocking the coffee shop, and addressing any store needs promptly to ensure smooth operation.
This role demands the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service. Candidates will need to demonstrate a willingness to continuously learn, particularly in promoting inclusive and diverse interactions within the workplace. The position encourages individuals who can work independently while exercising sound judgment and strong organizational skills.
Employment as a student worker at RRCC allows for up to 20 work hours per week during academic sessions, and up to 28 hours during breaks or between terms. Additionally, students enrolled in less than six credit hours contribute to a TIAA-CREF retirement account, which is part of the work study benefits. To qualify, applicants must be currently enrolled students at RRCC, registered at least half-time with a minimum of six credit hours, and must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Physical demands for this position are minimal but include occasional lifting of items up to 10 pounds. The work environment is mostly sedentary, involving extensive interaction and communication with students, faculty, and community members both in person and via office equipment. Cognitive demands include tasks such as comparing, analyzing, synthesizing, and communicating information effectively.
RRCC is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for applicants and employees with disabilities, ensuring an equitable workplace. Interested applicants must submit a resume, a detailed letter of interest, and their current course schedule for consideration. This position offers an enriching experience, promoting professional growth, customer service skills, and contributing to the RRCC community in a meaningful way.
