The church emphasizes personal devotion, strong family relationships, financial responsibility, active participation in regular services, and maintaining high standards of honesty, confidentiality, and unity within the church community. This supportive environment allows staff to actively promote the gospel message and uphold the church's doctrine while participating in an encouraging and loving community.
The Barista position at James River Church is an essential role that operates under the direction of the Food Services Director and the Campus Café Lead. This role is designed to provide quality food and beverage service to all customers while demonstrating exceptional social skills and professionalism. The Barista will be knowledgeable about the building layout as they often serve as an information point for visitors. This role requires detailed knowledge of the café's coffee drink procedures and day-to-day operations, specifically at the James River Café.
The Barista is responsible for handling monetary transactions accurately, operating espresso and brewing machines, baking, cleaning, and maintaining a safe environment in line with café standards. The role also involves managing inventory and supplies, following detailed instructions, and adapting to changes in plans with effective solutions. The Barista will receive comprehensive training upon hire covering café procedures, food handling, safety, and ongoing professional development to maintain high service standards.
This position calls for individuals with great character traits such as honesty, integrity, enthusiasm to learn, and flexibility in scheduling. The Barista must be punctual, dependable, and organized while maintaining a positive attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for the role. Additionally, the Barista must be willing to obtain Food Handlers or ServSafe certification and be capable of physical tasks like lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for long periods.
James River Church emphasizes a heart behind all they do, anchored in joy, enthusiasm, encouragement, love and care, and servant-mindedness. Baristas are expected to smile at every encounter, engage enthusiastically with their role and church, encourage and support their team, show compassion reflecting the love of Jesus, and embody a servant’s heart by helping those in need and fostering teamwork.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about serving others in a faith-based environment and who wish to grow both professionally and spiritually while contributing to a thriving church community.
