Advocate Health is a leading nonprofit integrated health system in the United States, formed through the merger of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. The organization operates under several regional brands including Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health across the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin. Advocate Health is nationally recognized for its clinical innovation, exceptional health outcomes, outstanding consumer experience, and commitment to value-based care. With headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients annually, engaging in numerous clinical trials and research initiatives, with academic support from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
The organization employs around 155,000 teammates across 69 hospitals and over 1,000 care locations. Advocate Health is renowned for its expertise in various medical specialties, including cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, organ transplants, burn treatments, and musculoskeletal programs. In addition to patient care, Advocate Health has one of the nation's largest graduate medical education programs, with over 2,000 residents and fellows participating in more than 200 training programs. The health system is dedicated to providing equitable care to diverse communities and contributes over $6 billion annually in community benefits.
The role of Barista within Advocate Health is a full-time position offering 40 hours per week, with available shifts during the first and second shifts. The pay range for this role is between $18.85 and $28.30 per hour, and the position is benefits eligible. The barista plays an essential role in delivering legendary customer service, providing quick, friendly, and personalized attention to every customer. This position demands an individual who embodies a customer-first attitude and can connect authentically with customers to discover and respond to their needs.
Key responsibilities include preparing and selling baked goods and food items, processing transactions accurately, adhering to cash handling policies, and maintaining the highest standards of product preparation. Baristas follow official Starbucks recipes (where applicable), specialty drink measurements, and food presentation standards to ensure consistent quality. The role also involves operating and maintaining espresso equipment to meet manufacturer and sanitation guidelines.
Working in a high-volume environment, the barista must remain calm and set a positive example for the team, contributing to overall store goals to increase sales and improve profitability. The position also supports new barista training by offering encouraging coaching and reinforcing effective performance. Attention to food safety is critical, with responsibilities including monitoring food and equipment temperatures, following safe food handling procedures, performing continuous sanitation duties, and complying with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards.
Other duties involve preparing inventory, requisitioning daily supplies, and ensuring proper storage and labeling of food and beverage items. This role requires a thorough understanding of food preparation, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands include the ability to stand for long periods, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, handle hot beverages and food safely, and lift items as heavy as 50 pounds occasionally.
Advocate Health provides a comprehensive Total Rewards program that includes competitive compensation with opportunities for shift and incentive pay, paid time off, a variety of health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, short- and long-term disability), flexible spending accounts, family benefits including adoption assistance and paid parental leave, retirement savings plans with employer contributions, and educational assistance programs. These benefits support the well-being and career development of employees and foster a positive, inclusive work culture.
