Job Description

Nossa Familia Coffee is a distinguished coffee company located in Portland, Oregon, an area known for its vibrant coffee culture and rich history of coffee roasting. Proud to be Oregon's first Certified B Corporation coffee roaster, Nossa Familia Coffee stands out by embracing rigorous standards in sustainability, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. The company operates with a strong commitment to farm-direct relationships, ensuring that their coffee is sourced directly from the farms with which they partner, fostering transparency, quality, and ethical practices. Beyond just being a coffee roaster, Nossa Familia is deeply invested in creating positive local and global relationships, driving a mission that extends beyond coffee production to societal impact. This commitment manifests in their inclusive, diverse, and dynamic workplace culture, which actively challenges traditional coffee industry stereotypes by welcoming individuals who bring varied life experiences and a passion for their core values and purpose.

As a Barista with Nossa Familia Coffee, you will play an essential role in maintaining and elevating the company’s brand through exceptional customer service and coffee craftsmanship. This position is classified as hourly and non-exempt, offering a starting wage of $16.55 with a 2% step increase following the completion of initial training, typically within 30 working days. Working between 15 to 20 hours per week, most shifts last 4 to 6 hours, providing a flexible schedule suitable for those balancing other commitments. The Barista’s responsibilities are centered on delivering top-quality, perfectly crafted coffee drinks that impress customers while embodying the company’s sustainability and community-focused values. The role demands reliability, punctuality, and dedication, as well as a passion for specialty coffee and continuous learning about coffee origins and brewing techniques. Baristas at Nossa Familia Coffee are not just servers; they are educators and ambassadors who help deepen customers’ appreciation of specialty coffee and the importance of farm-direct sourcing.

This role requires excellent interpersonal skills to create warm, authentic interactions with customers and the ability to maintain efficiency and precision in a fast-paced café environment. Physical stamina is necessary as staff may stand for long periods and occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Nossa Familia Coffee supports its employees through comprehensive benefits including paid time off, volunteer time, flexible time off, healthcare options, supplemental insurance, retirement plans with company matching, paid holidays, overtime pay on holidays, paid sabbaticals, bike reimbursements, public transit subsidies, trips to coffee origins, and free coffee. This package reflects the company’s proactive approach to fostering employee well-being and engagement.

Nossa Familia Coffee prioritizes a positive, sustainable, and inclusive culture where each team member’s contribution is valued. Staff members are encouraged to take pride in the quality of their product and service, uphold cleanliness standards, and embrace accountability within a supportive team environment. The workplace is lively and dynamic, often subject to natural elements, requiring employees to adapt to varied temperatures through the seasons. Applicants who identify with the company’s mission, values, and the dynamic nature of the role are encouraged to apply by submitting a cover letter and resume. Growth-minded, community-oriented individuals looking to join a pioneering coffee company will find a fulfilling career path at Nossa Familia Coffee.
