Job Description
Visible Voice Books is a well-established independent bookstore located in Ohio City, Cleveland, Ohio. This brick-and-mortar establishment focuses on a diverse and engaging selection of literary genres including fiction, modern poetry, art, music, film, counter culture, and current events. Recently, Visible Voice Books expanded and renovated its space to a generous 6,000 square foot location on Lorain Avenue. This newly designed space houses the innovative Visible Voice Cafe, a unique addition that complements the bookstore's cultural and creative atmosphere. The cafe serves specialty coffee and espresso drinks, an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages, pastries, snacks, small plates, fresh salads, and sandwiches. In addition, the cafe features a full-service bar, enhancing the customer experience by offering a vibrant social setting within the bookstore environment. The integration of a cafe within the bookstore speaks to the company’s commitment to building a community hub where literature, art, and social interaction merge naturally.
Visible Voice Books is currently hiring full-time and part-time baristas to join the exciting new venture of Visible Voice Cafe. This role is ideal for individuals who are smart, creative, and curious multi-taskers with a passion for customer service, teamwork, and excellent communication. While prior barista experience is a plus, it is not a strict requirement as the company values attitude and adaptability just as much. The baristas will have the unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that combines the love of books and quality cafe service, creating memorable experiences for every visitor. The position requires an individual who can prepare and serve high-quality, consistent beverages and food items, maintain cleanliness and organization, and anticipate the needs of both customers and colleagues. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- ability to work flexible shifts including evenings weekends and holidays
- strong interpersonal skills
- physical ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- mandatory cover letter submission explaining interest in the position and experience with exceptional hospitality
- legal authorization to work in the United States

- Preparing and serving high-quality creative and consistent food and beverages
- cultivating a dynamic consistent and memorable experience for customers
- maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness
- anticipating customer cafe and kitchen needs by evaluating situations and proactively communicating to management and other staff
- collaborating with other team members to improve the speed of service workflow and expediting of beverage and food service while still maintaining quality
- contributing original ideas to an always-developing food and beverage menu
- exhibiting the highest levels of kindness professionalism safety and respect toward your team members management and customers
- assisting with inventory tracking ordering supplies and handling cash
- assisting in training future new hires
