The opportunity at The Rivers of Grosse Pointe Woods is for a Cafe Attendant, a vital role within the food service department that ensures residents receive quality nutrition and dining experiences. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities aimed at providing the highest level of customer service to residents while adhering strictly to safety and hygiene standards. The Cafe Attendant is expected to assist with food preparation, operate institutional food preparation equipment, and maintain cleanliness in all food service areas. They also deliver nourishment and snacks on schedule and prepare alternate meals as required. The position calls for a dedicated individual who values teamwork, shows integrity, and demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year experience in institutional food service
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices
- Ability to operate food preparation equipment
- Basic computer skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to perform basic math
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to follow facility policies and procedures
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Willingness to adhere to workplace drug and alcohol policies
Job Qualifications
- Must not have been found guilty by a court of law for abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting
- Must not use illegal drugs
- Must practice freedom from use of, and effects of, drugs and alcohol in the workplace
- Must have working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (i.e. word processing, graphics, databases, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills as well as oral and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate ability to perform basic math skills accurately
- Should have a minimum of one (1) year of related experience in an institutional food service setting
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times
Job Duties
- Provide the highest quality of customer service for residents
- Demonstrate respect for employees and respond to needs of residents by complying with facility policies
- Store and handle all food according to facility procedures and safe food handling guidelines
- Assist with food preparation as assigned
- Prepare food items according to standardized recipes assuring safe food handling practices
- Operate institutional food preparation equipment according to manufacturer and supervisory direction
- Assist with the set-up of the food tray line
- Prepare and deliver nourishment, food supplements and snacks to units as scheduled
- Report refusal of served meal to Department Manager and Supervisor so alternate meals can be provided
- Prepare and serve alternate meals as directed
- Clean dishes, utensils, and equipment according to facility procedures
- Run and maintain dish machines according to manufacturer directions
- Report all equipment problems to Department Manager promptly
- Maintain food service equipment in a clean and safe operating condition according to facility procedures
- Maintain food service workspaces in clean and safe condition at all times
- Clean workspaces, cooking and serving equipment, trays and dishes according to facility procedures
- Report any signs of rodent or pests to Department Manager immediately
- Report injury to self or others to Department Manager immediately
- Assist the Department Manager with state inspection preparation
- Possess and demonstrate knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of the facility including the location of emergency phone numbers
- Demonstrate ability to carry out the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Perform other duties as assigned
