Job Description
The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division is part of The Salvation Army, a distinguished international evangelical movement that forms a vital part of the universal Christian Church. With its mission deeply rooted in the teachings of the Bible and motivated by the love of God, The Salvation Army is committed to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs without discrimination. The organization is globally recognized for its extensive programs aimed at the spiritual, emotional, and physical regeneration of individuals from all walks of life. Located in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, also known as Kroc Center Hawaii, serves as a vibrant community hub where families, individuals, and relationships are nurtured and thrive through wholesome programs inspired by Christian values.
The Kroc Center Hawaii, as a community center, emphasizes creating an inclusive, supportive environment where community members can engage in various social, recreational, and educational activities. This commitment to community well-being aligns closely with The Salvation Army’s broader mission of service and compassion. Within this environment, the part-time Café Attendant plays a crucial role, not only in delivering food and beverage services but also in reinforcing the center’s vision and values by interacting positively with patrons.
The Café Attendant position at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is a non-exempt, part-time role offering an hourly wage of $14.00. The role is supervised directly by the Café Manager and requires a flexible schedule, including availability to work varied shifts such as weekends and holidays. This job is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about customer service and wish to contribute to a community-focused organization that emphasizes spiritual and social impact.
Fundamentally, this role involves preparing food and beverages, maintaining high standards of hygiene, and providing excellent customer service to all members and guests. This entails comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage menus and the ability to make informed suggestions to customers, ensuring a welcoming and helpful atmosphere in the café. Duties also include preparing beverages like coffee, espresso, cappuccino, and smoothies, alongside handling cash transactions and point-of-sale (POS) systems efficiently. Maintaining stock levels and cleanliness on service lines is critical to ensuring seamless operations during scheduled hours.
The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a strong alignment with the values of The Salvation Army, showing a genuine commitment through their professional behavior and community representation. The role requires physical stamina as it demands standing for long periods, lifting up to 25 pounds or more occasionally, and performing various manual tasks such as cleaning and organizing the café space. Moreover, the Café Attendant must possess good communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with poise and attention to detail.
Beyond technical skills and physical demands, this position calls for emotional resilience and a positive attitude, especially when responding to customer needs or dealing with crisis situations calmly and effectively. By upholding the code of ethics specific to Kroc Center Hawaii and adhering strictly to the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army, the Café Attendant ensures that the community center functions smoothly while embodying the spiritual mission at its core. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to engage actively in community service while developing valuable skills in food service and customer relations.
