Job Description
The Children's Museum of Phoenix (CMoP) is a vibrant, dynamic institution dedicated to inspiring creativity, curiosity, and learning for children and families through interactive exhibits and programs. Situated in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, CMoP serves as a vital cultural and educational resource for the community, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. The museum prides itself on fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where children can explore, play, and engage meaningfully in hands-on experiences that stimulate their imagination and growth. The museum is committed to providing exceptional experiences while maintaining a safe, friendly, and educational atmosphere for all guests.
The Children's Museum of Phoenix is currently seeking a dedicated part-time Barista to join the Visitor Development department and contribute to the success of the on-site cafe, Delish. This temporary non-exempt position reports directly to the Cafe Manager and offers an hourly wage of $15.10 plus tips, providing an excellent opportunity for candidates who enjoy customer service, coffee culture, and working in a lively, family-friendly setting. Baristas at CMoP are the welcoming faces of the cafe, responsible for serving a variety of coffee drinks, running pastries and lunch items to visitors, and engaging warmly with the families and guests that frequent the museum daily.
The role involves multiple responsibilities, including preparing and serving coffee and tea using espresso machines, coffee brewers, and other cafe equipment efficiently and with high-quality standards. The Barista will also handle cash and card transactions accurately while adhering to recommended safety and hygiene protocols. Members of the team will actively promote current sales and discounts, assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the cafe’s dining area, and work collaboratively within a positive team environment to meet the department's revenue goals. Being knowledgeable about the museum's exhibits, events, and policies is a valuable part of the job to foster a welcoming and informed atmosphere for visitors.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, creativity in problem-solving, the ability to perform well under pressure, and a passion for customer service, especially with families and children. Flexibility is essential as availability is required on weekdays, weekends, holidays, and some evenings during special events. Basic computer proficiency is necessary to operate point-of-sale systems and balance cash drawers at shift end accurately. The museum values diversity and inclusivity and welcomes applications from individuals of varied backgrounds, with fluency in Spanish or other languages considered a plus.
This position requires stamina for standing long hours, the physical capability to lift items up to 25 pounds, and compliance with all pandemic-related health and safety guidelines. As a part-time role with no supervisory duties, this opportunity is ideal for those who enjoy dynamic, people-focused work environments and are passionate about contributing to a family-centered cultural institution. Joining the Children’s Museum of Phoenix means becoming part of a team committed to educational excellence and community engagement through fun, innovative, and enriching experiences.
