The role of an Advanced Technician at Sparklight involves providing world-class support service by completing new customer installations, repairing equipment, and troubleshooting technical issues. Job Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license of the state in which the individual is employed
- Ability to work variable schedules and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shifts, or on-call
- Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required
- Successful completion of Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months
- Knowledge of telecommunications regulations including FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT
- Ability to operate electronic test equipment such as signal level meters and reflectometers
- Minimum of one-year certificate from college or technical school or three to four years related experience and/or training
Job Qualifications
- One-year certificate from college or technical school or three to four years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Successful completion of Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of hiring
- Working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters, leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer, optical time domain reflectometer and related test equipment
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, DOT, and local ordinances impacting telecommunications
- Valid driver’s license from the state of employment
- Ability to work variable schedules including overtime, weekends, evenings and holidays
Job Duties
- Maintaining high level service by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC and fiber optic networks, and the Home Terminal Units
- Supporting customers by repairing local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using electronic test equipment
- Reading and interpreting system and network design maps, verifying documentation, and reporting findings
- Splicing and terminating coaxial and fiber optic cables, mounting active and passive devices both aerial and underground, activating devices, and testing performance
- Performing surveys to assess if customer-requested locations can receive service and creating maps for cost estimation
- Performing underground facility locates to prevent cable damage and service interruptions
- Performing construction maintenance duties including splicing, activating, repairing, or replacing plant and equipment to meet system specifications
- Monitoring plant for signal leakage and tracking and repairing leaks
- Training technical personnel as directed
