With a workforce of over 800 employees, the Select Milk family of companies is deeply embedded in all aspects of the dairy farm business. The cooperative’s culture is built on strong commitments to accountability, integrity, quality, and high performance. They pride themselves on going above and beyond expectations by caring for their families, leading employees, nurturing the land and animals, delighting customers with quality milk products, and supporting one another. This core philosophy is more than a business model; it represents the foundation of their shared values and workplace environment.

Select Milk Producers offers employees an attractive compensation package coupled with best-in-class benefits that include medical, vision, dental, and life insurance, among others, customizable to support individual and family needs. Eligible employees can enjoy additional benefits such as a 401(k) plan with a company match up to 6%, life and disability insurance, as well as paid holidays and vacation time. The company is also committed to maintaining an inclusive and equal employment opportunity workplace.

The Butter Packaging Operator role at Select Milk Producers is essential to maintaining the company’s high standards of quality and efficiency in dairy product packaging. This position involves operating butter packaging machines and ensuring they function at optimal levels through proper setup and continuous maintenance. Operators are responsible for the accurate packaging and tracking of butter inventory, paying close attention to product quality and adherence to defined standards. They work diligently to keep the butter packaging environment clean and sanitary, ensuring compliance with USDA inspection requirements at all times.

Key responsibilities include monitoring the production line for issues such as jams or defective packaging, inspecting products, and removing or resealing non-conforming packages. The operator must be knowledgeable about butter packaging equipment and maintain a pace to meet line production demands. Reporting any machine damage or unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors is vital for maintaining safety and smooth operations. The role requires engaging in ongoing improvement efforts and supporting a culture of continuous efficiency enhancements. Operators are also tasked with performing food safety and quality duties, cross-training on related equipment such as churns, and assisting in the training of new personnel.

To succeed in this role, candidates must work safely, effectively, and follow all safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment. They should have troubleshooting skills for small problems, an ability to communicate and escalate issues appropriately, and willingness to seek assistance when needed. The operator position includes detailed documentation tasks such as filling and changing charts, performing sanitary clean-in-place procedures, and managing chemical titrations.

Applicants are required to have at least a high school diploma or GED. Although no specific licenses or certifications are required, familiarity with manufacturing and food production environments is beneficial. This is a hands-on position well-suited for individuals interested in the dairy production industry and who take pride in maintaining cleanliness and quality standards in food packaging operations. Select Milk Producers provides a supportive environment that encourages growth and collaboration, offering a meaningful career path in one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the nation.
