The role of a Busser at Oh So Original is integral to maintaining the high level of service the restaurant is known for. Busser responsibilities encompass a variety of duties, including promptly clearing dirty tableware and resetting tables with clean silverware, linens, and condiments according to service protocols. Maintaining stock levels and cleanliness of service stations is essential, as is assisting with food and beverage service to ensure that guests are satisfied and that service lanes flow without disruption. The role also includes transporting dirty dishes to the dishwashing area and performing general cleaning duties to comply with health and safety standards. The Busser must be able to react quickly to special requests and unexpected situations, which may include cleaning spills and helping with guest seating.

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, effective communication abilities, and strong organizational talents. Experience in a similar restaurant environment is beneficial, especially prior server experience, though comprehensive training will be provided. The position requires stamina and physical capability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and walking, as well as the ability to lift and carry trays weighing up to 25 pounds. Working varied hours, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, is mandatory, reflecting the operating hours of the restaurant.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Well organized with ability to take and place food and beverage orders accurately
  • Ability to operate point-of-sale systems
  • Must be at least 21 years old to serve alcoholic beverages
  • Previous experience as a server preferred
  • Must successfully complete a restaurant training course

Job Duties

  • Practice OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards and comply with all company safety policies and procedures
  • Quickly clear dirty table settings and prepare tables for resetting
  • Promptly and consistently reset all service ware as prescribed
  • Maintain stock and cleanliness of stations for all meal periods with necessary equipment including silverware, linen and condiments
  • Wipe down booths and chairs, move tables and chairs, and clean floors as necessary
  • Assist servers with food and beverage service to ensure guest satisfaction and smooth running of restaurant flow
  • Transport all dirty tableware from the dining room to the dishwashing area for proper cleaning
  • Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned by the supervisor to adhere to health standards
  • Perform all assigned side work to include replenishing condiments and restocking side stations
  • Perform other duties as requested, such as cleaning unexpected spills, handling special guest requests, greeting and seating guests and ensuring guest satisfaction
  • Must maintain a high standard of service and ensure guest satisfaction
  • Assist in keeping the back of the restaurant clean and organized
  • Help fold napkins, keep restaurant linen containers empty, take soiled linen to housekeeping and replenish with fresh linen, re-polish the silverware, set up the back area and organize the food pick up area
  • Remove dirty dishes as well as extra settings
  • At the start of each shift ensure tables are set up according to service standards, with clean silverware and glassware
  • Ensure empty tables are cleared and reset as soon as possible after they are vacated
  • Must keep the working area clean and organized at all times
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory and proper condition of equipment and operating supplies
  • To be fully aware of the hotel’s licensing, fire and health and safety regulations
  • To perform and assist with any other duties assigned from management
  • Wash, rinse, and sanitize all dishes
  • Keep dining room tables clean and bussed
