The Busser position at Smith & Wollensky plays a critical role in maintaining the smooth operation and cleanliness of the restaurant. This is a frontline position responsible for enhancing the guest experience by ensuring tables are promptly cleared and reset, the environment is kept immaculate, and guests receive attentive assistance when needed. The Busser works closely with the Front of House (FOH) Manager or Manager on Duty, contributing to a positive and efficient dining atmosphere. This role requires individuals who demonstrate excellent judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant setting.

Key responsibilities involve clearing used dishes, resetting tables with fresh place settings, wiping down chairs, and inspecting the dining space including floors and restrooms to maintain cleanliness and safety standards. The Busser supports the wait staff by managing the flow of dirty dishes to the dishwasher area and restocking essential supplies such as silverware and napkins. Additionally, the Busser must interact pleasantly with guests, providing basic information, recommendations, and responding to their needs with a courteous demeanor.

The physical demands of the Busser role are significant, requiring stamina to stand and move quickly throughout the shift, as well as the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Attention to detail, promptness, and adherence to hygiene standards are also essential. Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency degree preferred
  • experience working in a high-volume restaurant setting is advantageous

Job Duties

  • Clears away dishes from guests
  • re-sets tabletops with place settings and wipes down chairs
  • inspects and cleans carpet and other flooring when debris or liquid is detected
  • responds to guests' questions and makes recommendations as appropriate
  • sets up and maintains workstations including setting up tables at beginning or end of shift
  • carries trays back to dishwasher, unloads and wipes trays clean
  • scrapes and stacks dishes and returns dirty dishes and silverware to dishwashing area
  • stocks stations with silverware, napkins etc.
  • checks restrooms for cleanliness
  • responds to guests' additional requests and assists servers as needed
  • inspects floor for debris, spills and sweeps or dries as necessary
  • performs other duties as assigned by management
