Job Description

Athena Care is a leading provider of comprehensive mental health services with a mission to improve access to quality mental health care so that people can live happier, healthier, and more productive lives. Operating primarily in Tennessee and its neighboring states, Athena Care aims to become the foremost mental health services platform in the region. They offer a wide array of behavioral health services including outpatient medication management, therapy services, Interventional Psychiatry treatments such as TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), Spravato, Ketamine therapy, and psychological testing. Athena Care is committed to expanding its reach and impact by addressing the growing mental health needs of communities through innovative and compassionate care solutions.

The Business Development Representative position at Athena Care is a pivotal role within the organization that directly contributes to the growth and expansion of the company’s behavioral health service lines. As a key driver of growth, the individual in this role will perform market research, build and nurture a robust referral network, and support business development and marketing initiatives throughout middle Tennessee. This role requires the individual to be a knowledgeable ambassador for Athena Care’s full continuum of care, effectively connecting potential referral sources to the appropriate services.

The ideal candidate combines strong interpersonal skills with business development acumen, allowing them to foster long-term relationships with healthcare providers and community partners such as primary care physicians, pediatricians, specialists, behavioral health providers, universities, hospitals, and employee assistance programs. They will also serve as a liaison between referral partners and Athena Care’s internal teams, ensuring a seamless and professional referral process.

In this role, the Business Development Representative will be responsible for conducting extensive outreach—including in-person presentations and goodwill visits—to educate potential partners on Athena Care’s services and the benefits of collaboration. They will monitor and report on key performance indicators such as referral sources, conversion rates, and patient visits to provide transparency and insight for continuous organizational improvement. The person will also work closely with marketing to develop tailored service collateral and digital campaigns that enhance outreach effectiveness.

The role demands excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and an analytical mindset to assess market trends and identify new business opportunities. Understanding clinical appropriateness to balance growth with quality care is crucial to avoid overpromising and underdelivering on services. The Business Development Representative will spend a significant portion of their time traveling throughout middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Hendersonville, to maintain and grow referral relationships. This position offers a dynamic, growth-oriented environment, perfect for a self-motivated, results-driven professional comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Overall, joining Athena Care means becoming part of a company that values innovation, compassion, and dedication to mental health care improvement. This role is essential in bridging the gap between the organization’s comprehensive mental health services and the communities that need them, making a meaningful difference every day.
