Job Description

San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is a renowned international nonprofit conservation organization that operates two major attractions: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This organization is deeply committed to integrating wildlife health and care, scientific research, and education to develop sustainable solutions for global conservation challenges. Founded on principles of respect and care for animals and their habitats, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance plays a pivotal role in wildlife protection, fostering a connection between the public and the natural world, thereby promoting conservation awareness and action. It is headquartered in San Diego, California, a hub for conservation efforts with one of the most famous zoos worldwide.

The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park serve not only as tourist destinations but also as critical platforms for conservation education and scientific research. The organization employs a wide range of professionals dedicated to animal care, veterinary medicine, biological research, education, and guest services, all united by the common mission of sustaining wildlife populations and increasing ecological literacy among visitors.

The role of Bus Person at San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an integral part of its commitment to excellent guest services within the dining venues of both the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. Positioned under general supervision, the Bus Person contributes to the overall guest experience by ensuring cleanliness, efficient table readiness, and timely service support. This hourly, part-time, non-exempt union role is essential for maintaining the high standards of service expected at these world-class destinations. The position offers an hourly wage of $19.50 and requires the selected applicant to complete Responsible Beverage Service Training within 60 days, which the organization provides on-site.

The Bus Person's responsibilities include clearing and cleaning tables, restocking with appropriate dishes and silverware, assisting in event setups such as special parties and catered gatherings, and maintaining a safe and orderly environment throughout the dining areas. Working closely with the Lead Bus Person or Chef, the Bus Person ensures that the operation runs smoothly and guests receive prompt and courteous service. This role is particularly suited for individuals who thrive in fast-paced settings and who possess strong customer service skills, as they often interact with visitors, answering questions about the organization and enhancing the overall guest experience.

Employment with San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance offers numerous rewards beyond the hourly wage. Employees benefit from free admission to both the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, family passes, complimentary tickets, and free parking facilities. Additional perks include local and in-house discounts, access to the Employee Assistance Program, and wellness initiatives supporting the staff's well-being. The organization prides itself on fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture that welcomes all qualified applicants regardless of background, ensuring equal employment opportunities. As a federal contractor, the Alliance participates in the E-Verify Program to confirm employment eligibility, maintaining a commitment to legal and ethical hiring practices.

In summary, the Bus Person position is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to be part of a globally recognized conservation organization while delivering exceptional guest service in an engaging environment. Candidates looking to contribute to wildlife conservation through operational support roles will find this position both meaningful and professionally fulfilling.
