This particular role is for a part-time school and activity bus driver responsible for safely transporting students, club members, and passengers on scheduled routes. The position demands strict adherence to all state and federal regulations governing commercial and passenger transportation, ensuring the wellbeing of each individual on board. The driver will be tasked with maintaining a clean and functional vehicle, conducting routine inspections, and demonstrating excellent communication skills with members, parents, and staff. The driving routes primarily cover the transporting of Boys & Girls Club members to and from authorized stops, necessitating punctuality and a high standard of professional conduct.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold or be able to acquire a valid North Carolina Driver License suited for operating buses with capacities ranging from 15 to 72 passengers. Additionally, obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements will be essential for those driving larger capacity vehicles. Safety is paramount in this role, so candidates will be expected to maintain an excellent driving record, pass drug screenings, clear background checks, and complete specialized training through the organization. The role offers an hourly pay rate starting at $20, with an increase to $23 for those holding a CDL. Job Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age
High school diploma
Possess or can obtain a valid North Carolina Driver License to operate up to 15 passenger activity bus
Possess or can obtain a valid Class B North Carolina commercial driver’s license before receiving a bus route
Possess or can obtain a valid Passenger Endorsement (P) or School Bus (S)
Must maintain an acceptable NC driving record as outlined by NCDMV
Ability to read, interpret, and follow printed and electronic maps, route descriptions, and directions
Successfully pass the Boys & Girls Club driving test with the VP of Safety & Sites
Meet vision standards (20/40 acuity in each eye, 70° peripheral vision, and color recognition)
Knowledge of first aid, health standards, and hazards including ability to administer CPR/First Aid
Possess or can obtain a CPR/First Aid certification
Ability to communicate with members and adults both written and verbally
Pass drug screen and clear criminal background and sex offender registry checks
Excellent customer service and approach to members, parents, and staff

Job Qualifications

High school diploma
Ability to read, interpret, and follow printed and electronic maps, route descriptions, and directions
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Knowledge of first aid, health standards, and hazards including ability to administer CPR/First Aid
Ability to communicate professionally and calmly with members
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)—Class A, B, or C—with "S" (school bus) and "P" (passenger) endorsements or ability to obtain both preferred
2+ years of CDL driving experience preferred
Experience conducting pre-trip/post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance preferred
Strong safety awareness and leadership skills

Job Duties

Operate the school style/activity bus to transport students safely and on schedule, in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, administrative codes, and transportation operation guidelines
Maintain safe driver standards by managing passenger behavior, ensuring safety during loading/unloading, obeying all traffic laws, and observing all mandatory safety regulations for buses including clearing the bus and evacuating members quickly in the event of an emergency
Report on time for routes and give 48 hours’ notice of any requested time off
Transport and discharge only authorized members and staff of BGC at authorized school or designated stop locations
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking for mechanical defects, adequate fuel levels, items left on bus, damages to bus interior, and any safety concerns
Exercise responsible leadership by establishing and maintaining effective communications with school officials, parents, and BGC staff and communicate professionally and calmly with members
Maintain discipline while members are on the bus and report undisciplined students to the proper authority
Keep the bus clean and free of any items that may present a safety issue and communicate maintenance issues to supervisor
Attend and successfully complete all required meetings and training
Be sensitive to the cultural, ethnic, and religious views of the members, families served, and community during public contact
