Job Description
Yellow Brick Road is a dedicated childcare organization focused on creating warm, inclusive, and joyful environments where children, families, and staff can thrive. Their mission is rooted in putting good humans into the world and ensuring that their impact leaves a positive legacy. Known for fostering connection, purpose, and meaningful work, Yellow Brick Road invests heavily in the growth and development of their team members, celebrating what makes each individual exceptional. The organization values community and strives to build an atmosphere that supports the emotional, social, and developmental needs of children while maintaining a strong, supportive environment for families and staff alike. This commitment to excellence and holistic care distinguishes Yellow Brick Road as a leader in childcare and early childhood education services.
The role of the Bus Driver at Yellow Brick Road plays a critical part in supporting the organization’s mission by ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of school-age children to and from neighboring schools. The position requires a responsible, alert, and compassionate individual who understands the unique safety needs of transporting children. The Bus Driver is tasked not only with driving but also with providing high-quality care that supports the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of every child, using positive and respectful interactions at all times. This role demands a strong commitment to safety, demonstrated by strict adherence to safety procedures such as head counts and thorough walk-throughs of the bus after each trip.
Responsibilities include performing weekly bus inspections, refilling essential fluids such as washer fluid, oil, and coolant, and reporting findings to the Director. In addition, the Bus Driver will complete light cleaning duties on the bus and around the center to maintain hygienic and safe transportation conditions. The position also requires compliance with state licensing regulations and maintenance of annual training hours, including certifications in CPR and First Aid to ensure preparedness for emergencies. Warmth, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with both parents and children are essential. The Bus Driver must be physically capable of handling the demands of the job, including quickly evacuating the vehicle in emergencies and assisting children as needed.
The starting pay range for this position is $18 per hour, applicable primarily to candidates working in Iowa, with adjustments made for geographic location and other factors such as experience and education. Yellow Brick Road also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and a 401(k) plan, underscoring their dedication to supporting employees’ welfare and growth. This full-time role follows a Monday through Friday schedule with no weekend work, making it ideal for candidates seeking consistent hours and a balanced work-life schedule. Joining Yellow Brick Road means becoming part of a community committed to making a genuine difference in the lives of children and families every day.
