Situated in a setting typical of remote Alaska operations, the establishment focuses on delivering quality culinary and maintenance services while adhering strictly to mission, vision, and values dictated by the organization. The company operates in compliance with departmental policies, practices, and procedures, ensuring not only the satisfaction of its customers but also the well-being and safety of its employees. Employees are expected to undergo rigorous employment screening procedures, including drug testing, criminal background checks, and physical assessments to promote a safe working environment. This role offers a unique combination of kitchen duties, from food preparation and baking to cleaning and dishwashing, often combined with additional responsibilities such as sandwich making or pantry work. The employment involves rotating shift work, including extended shifts of up to twelve hours over multiple weeks interspersed with time off, necessitating that candidates be flexible and ready to work day or night shifts as required. The ability to exist effectively in a confined workspace, interact with a diverse group of people, and handle physically demanding tasks is essential.
The role primarily supports the Head Cook and is focused on food production and maintaining cleanliness and order within the kitchens, dining areas, and storage facilities. Duties cover the assortment of bakery preparation including mixing, baking, frying, and assembling pastries and other food items. Quality control in food production and sanitation practices is a central aspect of the job, ensuring that the food service area is well stocked, organized, and operating efficiently. Candidates are expected to provide exceptional customer service, work cooperatively with team members, and assist with menu and recipe development when required. Moreover, they play an active role in stocking supplies, handling cleaning equipment, and maintaining safety standards in an environment requiring constant vigilance. The physical demands include walking, standing, bending, and the ability to lift or carry items up to 50 pounds. The role involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and the responsibility of enforcing safety policies and participating in safety programs, which includes conducting safety meetings and documenting safety-related actions.
This position is suitable for someone with experience or vocational training in food preparation, cleaning, or related areas and who holds a valid State of Alaska Food Worker Card. Additional qualifications such as a high school diploma and ServSafe certification are desirable, indicating a preference for candidates with formal education and food safety knowledge. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent communication skills in English, ensuring effective interaction in this diverse and dynamic setting. The position calls for an individual committed to maintaining a safe work environment and excellent customer relations through professional and courteous conduct at all times. The role's responsibilities not only focus on operational tasks but also include supervisory duties such as training kitchen helpers and overseeing food serving lines to guarantee cleanliness, food quality, and sufficient stock levels. This comprehensive scope offers a multifaceted career opportunity for individuals seeking a position with variety and significance within the food service industry, especially within a unique remote Alaskan context, fostering skills in food preparation, safety compliance, teamwork, and customer service.
