The position available is within the Environmental Services Department of White Plains Hospital Medical Center. This role is a full-time day shift opportunity with scheduled hours from 7 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, with alternating weekends and holidays. The position is under the bargaining unit WPH - 1199 SEIU and offers a pay rate starting at $22.14 per hour, with potential adjustments based on shift differentials, experience, education, or other relevant factors.
The key responsibilities of this role involve performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks that support the overall safety and sanitation of the hospital environment. The Environmental Services team member is responsible for selecting suitable cleaning materials, preparing equipment and solutions, and following prescribed health guidelines to complete their duties effectively. Additionally, the role includes cleaning and maintaining equipment, reporting any mechanical failures or adverse conditions, and participating in emergency procedures as required. The position may involve operating an autoclave for the proper treatment of medical waste and performing seasonal grounds maintenance activities such as raking leaves, spreading salt, or snow removal.
Cleaning spillages related to patients, visitors, and staff is a critical component of this job, including handling bodily fluids and other biohazardous materials with utmost care and following safety protocols. The employee also manages the disposal of soiled linen, especially during patient discharge cleaning procedures, and undertakes additional related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Flexibility to work Monday through Friday, including alternating weekends and holidays
- Ability to perform physical tasks including cleaning duties and grounds maintenance
- Basic understanding of health and safety guidelines
- Willingness to participate in emergency procedures
- Capability to operate cleaning equipment and autoclave if assigned
Job Qualifications
- High school required or GED required
- Less than 1 year no formal experience required
- On the job training is provided
- 1-3 years 1 year of experience working directly with customers strongly preferred
- Ability to follow oral and or written instructions (high proficiency)
Job Duties
- Understands and adheres to the WPH performance standards, policies and behaviors
- Receives daily assignment and reports to assigned area
- Selects appropriate cleaning materials and supplies, loads service cart or prepares equipment and cleaning solution
- Follows prescribed health guidelines in accomplishing assigned responsibilities
- Cleans equipment at the end of shift to maintain it in good operating condition, notifies the supervisor of any repairs needed
- Reports mechanical failure or negative conditions as observed in any building area to a supervisor and or use of reporting mechanisms in place
- Participates in any emergency procedures, performing assigned tasks
