The CBRE Building Engineer role is a critical position within the Engineering and Technical Services function, focusing on the upkeep and operational efficiency of building systems. This full-time position typically operates Monday through Friday with a start time between 7:30 and 8:30 am. The role requires the engineer to be on-site at a primary location while also providing support to other local facilities, utilizing a company vehicle for work-related travel. Physical demands of the job include the ability to perform tasks such as stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and lifting or carrying loads exceeding 50 pounds. Compliance checks, including a clean driving record, background verification, drug screening (including marijuana), and a workplace physical, are mandatory prerequisites.

The Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and monitoring a wide range of building systems including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, HVAC, and structural components. This role requires expertise in preventive maintenance to maximize the life span of building machinery and ensure all systems perform at peak efficiency. The engineer must comply with all applicable codes, regulations, and company policies to maintain a safe working environment. A key aspect of the role is to assist with energy management programs to optimize system operations and reduce costs while upholding client-prescribed environmental standards. This position offers opportunities to lead by example, coach peers, and influence operations across multiple teams.

Candidates for this role will possess in-depth knowledge of relevant building systems and must demonstrate the ability to analyze complex technical data to provide effective solutions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), is preferred. Ideal candidates also bring math skills capable of handling financial calculations and percentages relevant to operational budgeting and planning.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school diploma or equivalent experience with 2-3 years of job-related experience
  • Certifications or licenses as required by local or state jurisdictions
  • Clean driving record
  • Successful background check and drug screen including Marijuana
  • Completed workplace physical
  • Meet physical requirements including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting/carrying loads of 50 lbs or more
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on analysis
  • Willingness to embrace new perspectives on solutions
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with relevant experience
  • Universal CFC certification preferred
  • Certifications or licenses as required by local or state jurisdictions
  • Prior shift management or supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze multiple sources of information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset
  • Solid math skills including calculating percentages and fractions
  • Familiarity with CMMS preferred
  • Experience in building maintenance and repair

Job Duties

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems
  • Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards
  • Comply with codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and safety
  • Maintain an energy management program ensuring efficient system operation
  • Assist with implementation of preventive maintenance programs
  • Perform emergency repairs as needed
  • Follow policies on the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace
  • Review inspections of building systems such as fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing
  • Apply knowledge of standard principles to solve complex assignments
  • Coach others and share job-related knowledge
