Job Description

DCU Center is a premier multi-purpose arena and convention center located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The role available is for a Cleaning and Maintenance Worker who will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall sanitation of various rooms and areas within the facility. This position is vital in ensuring the facility remains inviting and safe for all guests, tenants, and employees. The responsibilities for this role include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming carpets, removing trash, cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies, and cleaning windows. Additionally, the role involves handling specialized cleaning equipment such as buffers, wet vacuums, ride-on scrubbers, and carpet extraction machines safely and efficiently.

The position demands adherence to safety procedures including knowledge of the GHS Chemical Safety Program and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Training. The incumbent will be expected to perform minor repairs and maintenance on cleaning equipment and assist in the separation of recyclables from trash. Importantly, the role does not involve supervisory responsibilities, but requires a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Employment is unionized with a competitive hourly wage of $18.32 and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The role also requires the ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate the facility's event schedule. Physical demands are significant and include lifting up to 60 pounds, prolonged standing and walking, and working under varying environmental conditions including noise and dust. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous cleaning experience preferred
  • Ability to operate buffers, wet vacuums, ride-on scrubbers and carpet extraction machines
  • Knowledge of GHS chemical safety program and OSHA bloodborne pathogens procedures
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs unassisted
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience in similar cleaning roles desirable
  • Ability to operate power cleaning equipment safely
  • Knowledge of chemical safety programs and SDS sheets
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work safely from ladders and small lifts
  • Must possess valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Able to complete required trainings and pass testing

Job Duties

  • Participates in cleaning various rooms and areas including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming carpets
  • Removes trash to proper disposal areas
  • Cleans restrooms and restocks supplies
  • Cleans stains from carpets and seats
  • Cleans windows inside and outside of the facility
  • Assists in separation of recyclables from trash and proper disposal
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and areas as directed
  • Operates walkie-talkie radio as required
  • Presents a neat and groomed appearance
  • Ensures safe operation of cleaning equipment
  • Follows chemical safety and OSHA training requirements
