The Brody Culinary Platform Attendant role within the Residential and Hospitality Services division is a full-time position located at Brody Hall, one of the university's primary residential dining halls. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of food quality and customer service, directly interacting with the diverse student and staff population that utilize the dining facilities. The Culinary Platform Attendant is responsible for organizing, preparing, and supplying various food items, including those for salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and made-to-order service. This role supports cooks by combining ingredients, portioning food, and serving prepared orders while ensuring adherence to proper food handling and storage practices to reduce waste and spoilage. Employees in this position contribute significantly to the dining experience by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and timely service during operating hours.
This position is designated as critical status, meaning that during university closures or emergency conditions such as snow days, employees are expected to make reasonable efforts to report to work as scheduled. This underscores the importance of continuity in providing food services to the campus community. The work schedule typically includes Sunday through Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with Thursdays and Fridays off, and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role requires physical capability for occasional lifting of items weighing between 26 and 75 pounds, and it demands proficiency in various kitchen tasks like food preparation, safety, and equipment usage.

Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary
- one year of full-time experience in food preparation and use of kitchen equipment
- knowledge of kitchen safety practices
- ability to read weights and measures and the ability to weigh and measure ingredients
- ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and fractions
- knowledge of various methods of food preparation including sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling and steaming
- ability to properly use knives and standard kitchen equipment
- ability and skill to prepare items utilizing proper methods and production timing to assure freshly cooked products
- occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience
- one year of full-time experience in food preparation and use of kitchen equipment
- knowledge of kitchen safety practices
- ability to read weights and measures and weigh and measure ingredients accurately
- ability to perform basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- knowledge of various methods of food preparation such as sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, and steaming
- ability to properly use knives and standard kitchen equipment
- skill to prepare food items utilizing proper methods and timing to assure freshly cooked products
- ability to lift 26 to 75 pounds
- experience in a food service environment preferred
- flexibility and initiative in responding to customer demands
Job Duties
- Organize and prepare food items for salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and to-order service
- assist cooks by combining ingredients, portioning, and serving prepared to-order meals
