The role of Field and Lab Technician within WJE’s bridge engineering team, based at the global headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois, or the branch office in Portland, Oregon, offers a unique opportunity to engage with infrastructure projects both in the field and in the lab environment. This position demands regular travel across the nation to conduct detailed inspections and material testing on various bridge structures, including modern and historic constructions. Technicians will perform non-destructive and destructive testing techniques, collect samples, assist in full-scale testing, and fabricate and install structural retrofit components. Working under the supervision of Senior Specialists or Project Managers, a Field and Lab Technician at WJE independently completes complex assignments, supporting the overall engineering and diagnostic processes.

Technicians contribute directly to quality assurance, safety adherence, and data collection efforts, utilizing a combination of physical testing, instrumentation installation, and computer technology for documentation. As part of the broader engineering team, you will assist in identifying structural issues such as corrosion or cracking, calibrate testing equipment, and maintain field and laboratory tools.
